Rice’s WVB and WBB are both better than CLT’s GLF

Regardless of current ranking.

First: you're wrong. Second: you're still wrong. Third: How about our mens soccer? #8/9 this week and still unbeaten.

Marshall Blows The Doors Off Of UAB

Marshall with 3 goals in the 1st and 3 goals in the 2nd and only allowed 2 shots on goal and 1 corner. Marshall now 8-1-1. With wins over Dayton and UAB during the week and just sitting right outside the top 25 poll at 26. I look for Marshall to be ranked with the polls come out today. Especially since #22 VA Tech and #23 WVU lost this week.

Up Next: Charlotte at Charlotte. Both teams should be ranked by then.

As of right now, I'll take it with our soccer program, Marshall has never been ranked and has only received votes or should I say vote one other time. Before Mike Hamrick arrived at Marshall we had some sports that other ADs just seen as an afterthought. Both Men and Women's soccer was one of those.

Before Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex was opened in 2013 Marshall played on a field right next to Joan C Edwards Stadium (And when I mean right next to, if it was any closer we would have been inside the stadium), with bleachers to hold maybe 50 people.

Marshall's coach Chris Grassie is only in his 3rd year. So he doesn't even have a full recruiting cycle under him at the school. Grassie has got some kids to come here that even 5 years ago would have never even considered Marshall.

Players that Charlotte should keep an eye on:

Paulo Pita SR GK- Pita has only allowed multiple goals once this year. The only loss Marshall has a 3-2 loss to Texas Rio Grande

Jonas Westmeyer SR MF- Westmeyer only has 1 goal but his main role is to disrupt the continuity of the opposing team.

Pedro Dolabella JR MF- Dolabella has 2 goals and 6 assists this year. He seems to always know where to be in Grassie's aggressive system.

Milo Yosef FR F- Yosef has 7 goals and 5 assists this season. So far he has been the engine that makes this team go so far.

When Grassie took over it wasn't a rebuild, it was just a build. Marshall's program started in 1979 but until VMSC was built the soccer program was "just there". Same with the baseball stadium that's finally going to happen.

Oatm says let’s get a separate game thread together for the ranked-on-ranked action next week.

Oatm has not yet picked a side to root for yet... stay tuned

RE: clt says let's talk soccer
New NCAA volleyball RPI ratings came out this morning and Rice is #9 in the nation. If we could just get a couple clueless VB coaches to rank Rice, we'd probably be in the top 15 this week. But I'm guessing we may move up 1 spot to #20 but that's likely it.

ETA - no Rice stayed #21 due to P5 bias. Western Kentucky is one spot out of the top 25 at #26.

Congrats Marshall that's a strong showing.

What happened to UAB soccer? I seem to remember them being regulars in the NCAA tournament not to long ago.

You don’t.

The 2006 and 2007 Rice Owls baseball team made the Omaha final four and finished both seasons ranked 3rd nationally. At least one of those years the team was ranked #1 multiple weeks mid season.

Also, we were a #2 seed at both of those CWS tournaments.

Rice was the 2007 preseason #1 repping CUSA.

(I liked POST-season #1 even better in 2003, but that was not as a CUSA member)

That is unfortunate, because Charlotte was the first CUSA team to ever reach the National Semi-finals in any sport when Men's Soccer played in the College Cup in 1996. I assume we finished in the top 4 that season. When we play for the National Championship in 2011 we were in the A-10, and would have been #2 in the polls that year, but different conference. As a side note, I hear USM has lots of football fans.
