And, how bad would O$U beat Boy-z state???

We're not really.

25 and 26 are completely reasonable.

I agree that 25 is reasonable. But we're still being punished for losing to OSU. If we had rolled over an FCS team that week, we'd probably be ranked 15th this week.

We were consistently overranked last year based on our brand name alone. Combine that with a beating UCF, beating UCLA, and last year's 11-2 record. And anyone who takes a closer look would notice that we destroyed a Marshall team that took #14 Boise to the wire.

UC's computer rankings in the 6 computer rankings formerly used by the BCS:

Massey: 16
Sagarin: 30
Colley: 20
Billingsley: 16
Anderson & Hester - 1st ranking not released until next week
Wolfe - 1st ranking not released until next week

This is getting too complicated with all of these different polls.

We need a poll that ranks all of the different polls out there.

Our ranking will be determined by our Memphis game.

Friday night was a coin flip that we won.

I feel like the O is not hitting on all 8 cylinders. We can play better.

I agree to an extent. The last 2 games are our benchmark for the season. The team that stands between us and winning the East and the team that has been the main player in the West.

RE: Bearcats #20 AP Prediction
I'm sorry but there is absolutely ZERO reasons for Boyzee to be ranked #14. ZERO. There is no way on God's green earth that they are better than a one loss Utah, one loss Michigan, one loss Iowa, a one loss Zona St, and keep going. Hell, I'd put SMU above them for the simple fact that SMU has six wins to their five. That #14 ranking is based on lazyness of the voters and on brand name only. It shouldn't bother me but it does. Here's Boyzee Town's wins:

@ FSU [3-2]
Marshall [2-3]
Portland St [Give me a fuggin' break!]
Air Force [3-2]
@ UNLV [1-4]

They are a damn fraud and I can't wait until they lose to San Jose St!

Well, I guess I'm just looking for an index of indexes, then.

That would be the Massey Composite. It is an index of 52 different rankings and has us at #20: https://www.masseyratings.com/cf/compare.htm

Also, for what it's worth, nearly every computer poll out there has OSU number one. On the Massey Composite, they rank no lower than 4th in any of the rankings and they are on top of most of them.

Fair or not, they get the benefit of the doubt based on reputation -- not all that different from the blue bloods really. They have won 10+ games 16 out of the past 20 seasons, and won either 8 or 9 games in the 4 seasons they didn't hit double digits. It is assumed by the pollsters they will be good pretty much every season.

I don't disagree that they should be ranked but you can't justify #14 compared to the team resumes below them. They moved up 2 spots for beating 1-4 UNLV. I'll get over it because I know they will lose at least one game before the regular season ends.

Glad to see us enter the top 25. Need to make sure we continue our roll by taking care of business against Houston. If we win against Houston we should be able to reel off a few more wins and climb up the polls. Need to continue to climb to make sure we move ahead of Boise State when they lose.

Definitely helps with recruiting as someone pointed out earlier. Hopefully this is just another brick in the foundation that Fick and Co are building.

If you haven't noticed, a G5 school occupies that 14-17 range spot in the polls. It was UCF's, no it is boise. That way the G5 is getting the "respect" but just far enough out that they will not crack the top 6-8 so there is no chance for them to make a playoff.

You beat that many P5 teams, you make a name for yourselves. They are a good team that has won. If UC spends the next 5 years winning 10+ games a year then they will get that bump in the polls.

The highest ranked G5 conference champ gets an automatic NY6 bowl bid, regardless of their ranking. It’s a long way off, but all we have to do is be the highest ranked G5 conference champ, not be in the top 6-8.

Gotta keep that Big 10 inflated.

Does anybody honestly believe that UC is better than Michigan State?

Yes

Count me in that group too and that's not a homer opinion. In fact, although MSU rates slightly ahead cumulatively, of the 60 Massey rankings UC is ranked ahead of MSU in 30 of them compared to 29 for MSU ahead of UC. (USA Today isn't included since neither team is technically ranked in their Top 25 Poll although UC has more points than MSU among the "also getting votes" teams).

I would argue that UC did get that benefit of the doubt during much of last year.

Does a 6-0 team deserve to be ranked #20 if its wins are over 0-5 UCLA, 2-4 Miami, Alabama A&M, 1-5 UConn, and 2-4 Tulane?

After losing in OT to a mediocre Temple team (a squad opened the year with a loss to Villanova), we still managed to sneak back into the polls for 2 weeks based on beating 3-5 SMU and 2-6 Navy.

The only other G-5s that would be ranked on either of those razor-thin resumes would be Boise, UCF, and maybe Houston.
