RE: UCF Aftermath: Let's Keep This Thing Rollin'
One thing from the game that will help us moving forward, and Coach mentioned it last night, was 27 guys rotated on defense. That's some valuable on the field experience for many guys and a confidence booster from the staff. Does Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner look like the real deal on the corner or what?

The play of the secondary was maybe THE key to the game.

I love how genuine he is. He’s the most likable coach we’ve ever had. You just wanna drink beers with him and talk football.

I thought that was one of the most impressive parts of the game. Being able to legitimately rely on that many players against a top 25 team goes to show how well this staff has recruited. They have also done a tremendous job developing the talented players they sign. Just one example of how well they have developed players is how Ridder’s body was transformed in less than 2 years. They showed pictures of when he arrived on campus and then of May of this year and it was transformative.

"Sauce" Gardner could be special going forward. Dude is a physical specimen for a frosh CB.

Yeah I found the youtube link I am watching now. After watching the first half I can’t believe we scored 10 pts and somehow won the game. UCF’s tempo is crazy and their athletes are amazing. Our defense was just very opportunistic and tough inside the 20. UCF moved the ball at will between the 20’s.

Our dee has been transformed, obviously, since the Drubberville era. Remember when we never had guys in the right space in the secondary? Our backfield always got burned by the big pass play in coverage - never making a play on the ball. Guys couldn't tackle. We couldn't force turnovers. We were slow overall as a defense. Think about this, we held UCF to 3 field goals and 1 TD in 6 red zone tries. That INT was a gift since the UCF wideout slipped in his route but still - what an accomplishment after how UCF has been scoring in mega-droves all season. No one talks enough about Perry Young IMO. He is a fast backer in space and compliments very well with Bryan Wright.

Throw in Jarell White too. Our backers can move in space and make plays. Also, has Ridder finally gotten the monkey off his back to perform on a big stage? He got knicked up at times last night so staying healthy is key for him moving forward. We better have Bryant ready in the wings...

If we can blast Houston... we're rollin'.

Then it's Tulsa, ECU, Yukon and USF.

9-1 heading into the Temple game.

One of the things you can see watching the replay is how the D took advantage of every dead ball situation where Central Florida couldn't play with tempo, hustling a bunch of subs into the game. Watching the replay i'm actually surprised Central Florida didn't limit their subs on offense to limit Cincy's ability to rotate our personnel.

He still missed some throws I would like to see him complete and I’m still concerned against elite talent. Our offense only put up 20 points and he only threw for 149 yards. Admittedly though he is moving in the right direction. Just need to continue to see progress.

One thing i've clearly noticed since the opener is Des has an issue with his throwing wrist. He came out twice last night after not converting on 3rd down holding it like it was killing him. First time was so bad i thought it was his collarbone. However, second time i could clearly see it was his wrist. A bad wrist can definitely impact your touch as you compensate for it often if they treat/treating it. He missed a couple passes long into the wind last night including that one over the middle to JD. He threw the ball really well at Marshall, but i did notice one time in the 2q he went to it. Fick plays real silent on injuries so what's going on there will probably become clearer as the season goes on. I really thought we might see Bryant last night after he came off on the 2nd occurrence. Tough if your passing wrist is not 100%

Yes, I remember the Carter Jacobs era. It wasn’t that long ago.

RE: UCF Aftermath: Let's Keep This Thing Rollin'
With the win Friday night, Coach Fick is now 19-11 (.633) in his third season. He's also 1-0 in bowls. A lot of football yet to be played but projecting a 9-3 season gets him to 24-13 (.648) and another opportunity to win a bowl game. Not too shabby! Anything better than this is gravy on the mashed taters.

BTW, the early line has us 5.5 favorites at Houston.

One thing I won’t question from Ridder is his toughness. He’s taken a few big shots and just keeps coming after them. He took a helmet to helmet hit that should have clearly been a targeting penalty and it almost seemed to light a fire in him. It seems like he took a couple big hits last year and came back and played better right after.

A win like this can definitely have an affect on his confidence. Similarly I think leading UC to a win against UCLA helped him last year. We have a lot of talent with Bryant and Prater incoming so I’m sure he will continue to be pushed and progress.

Ridder reminds me of Ben Mauk in one way- they are both winners. Tough attitude, get the job done, never quit type of guys. Ridder been believin’ he could win since he took that first snap against UCLA.
