ACC BB On ACCN
I’ve read that the ACC Basketball Media Day is coming up on October 8. That’s less than a week off! Who will be doing the basketball broadcasts on ACCN? I’m talking about play by play, color and studio. Don’t tell me you’re going to have Mark Richt and the other football people doing this. Some of them are OK for football; others, maybe not so much. I hope we can all agree that none of them will suffice for basketball. Isn’t it about time to make an announcement? I don’t want to step all over football season but there should be a full day of live coverage for the Basketball Media Day. Somebody has to do it. Who? They announced the football people MONTHS in advance. What’s the damned problem making the basketball announcement. Please don’t tell me they’re still trying to make up their minds who to hire. And why, in the name of God are we hearing they’re not hiring Mike Gminski? That makes no sense.

Bob Rathbun is solid. Wes Durham is solid. Brad Nessler is stellar.

Does anyone know who is responsible for paying the on-air talent? Is it the ACC or ESPN? Some of these guys make millions of $$$ per year.

Did Seth Greenberg get demoted or will the ACCN be just a sometime thing for him? If he can slum, why can't Jay Williams?

I don't think I've seen Cornette before. I vaguely remember Cuff. I may come to love them but I'm not familiar with them now. If I had to guess, I'd say that all of these, with the possible exception of Cory Alexander, will only do studio work.

I cannot comprehend the failure to hire Mike Gminski. Failing to hire Dan Bonner would compound the problem. Give us people we know, people who have deep ACC roots. It's the ACC Network, for goodness sake.

Ran out of Bristol because ESPN paid for a new billion dollar studio for SportsCenter. I don't know if we're in the old SC studio or the new one, but either way, we're there b/c ESPN literally had a studio laying around collecting dust. I think it will be much easier to force ACC personalities in on shows and coverage if you demand the studios -- ALL OF THEM -- be in Charlotte. ESPNU is already there, so ESPN already has the infrastructure. Does Mike or Bonner or Rathbun live in Connecticut? Then why would they want that kind of ludicrous travel?

The one show we all agree we like most -- Packer and Durham -- is in Mark Packer's basement in Charlotte. Literally a basement where they hang ACC school stuff on the walls. And as far as I'm concerned it crushes every show they air on ACCN out of Bristol.

OK, thanks Mark. I thought when ESPN laid off a lot of on-air talent, a year ago, they were making these guys available for the ACCN. Thats what led me to thinking that the ACC maybe paying them.

Jordan Cornette played basketball at Notre Dame from 2001 to 2005.

He also was a host on "The Jam" at a local Chicago TV station and also was previously a commentator for CBS Sports Network and Fox Sports 1.for ND basketball games.

He also was a co-host of David Kaplan’s midday show on ESPN Radio sports/talk WMVP 1000-AM.

Well Packer jokes about Swofford firing them...I still think they are under contract with the Mouse.
