Game 6: Villanova
Undefeated and #8 Villanova has won the turnover battle in all of their games with the exception of Towson, but in the latter they dominated the offensive stats and had enough to overcome the TO deficit.

Very balanced attack with their junior RB, Justin Covington, going over 100 yards in all of their games to date. Campbell grad transfer and dual threat QB, Daniel Smith, has been effective. Having set many Campbell records, he is experienced and beat out Nova's talented, 6'6" rFr, Qadir Ismail. Smith is under 6'0, and ironically is out of Jimmye's backyard, Leesburg, having been the 5A State 1st Team QB his senior year. Villanova offered him a preferred walk-on out of HS. Not sure if we may have been involved or why not, and if Smith has any extra incentive playing back in state and against us.

Their defense is considered their strength. Only Towson has rushed for more than 100 yards against them.

We can be in this, if we win the TO battle, and if we get some real production out of our passing game. They are obviously a confident team coming in. Towson had them beat, but Nova still came back. We have got to show we have the meddle to close the deal down the stretch. Family weekend crowds have a tendency to be hit or miss and distracted, but need to give them a reason to play a part in boosting the team to an upset. Need to protect the home field the rest of the way, and steal an away game or two.

RE: Game 6: Villanova
We need to tighten up the sloppy mistakes from last week and we can have a shot at a win. Hope there's a good crowd for family weekend, and that the students can turn out a la game one.

This, obviously, will be an extremely difficult game to win...with the possibility of getting blown out if we can't have more ball possession. The Wildcats are very good this season and we're a team with little depth. They have a good quarterback and somehow we have to start getting some pressure and sacks.

We have a very talented, athletic freshman qb in Mathis. To have any chance of winning he must be 100% healthy this Saturday.

I really feel bad saying this...but if we aren't competitive this Saturday we may only win one or two games more this year (Richmond and perhaps Elon).

Before the Albany game this defense led the conference in sacks. While I saw a sack during the game and on the highlights, the team was credited with none on Saturday. Either way, qb pressure was all but impossible last weekend as it seemed we were content with our corners 15 yards off the LOS all night as their qb continuously threw 8 yard passes to the flats. Unless we decide to press up more often every team we play will do the exact same thing. The pairing of multiple 3 and outs on offense with a defensive plan that allowed Albany to control the ball for long chunks of time proved disastrous. It might be time to be a little more aggressive on both sides of the ball. I watched Albany DBs jam receivers all day long and I venture to say our deep threats are considerably faster than theirs. But they took away anything short. Their qb had a history of throwing picks down field and we basically let him off the hook by handing him the short game on a platter.

Vilanova is averaging almost 250 yards per game on the ground. This could be a tough one for our front seven and should open things up over the top. We'll need to put up a lot of points on Saturday to have a chance.

Two score dog probably fits the results thus far. Nova took advantage of miscues by Maine last week but didn’t produce much after Maine settles in. Maine threw for 400 yards. Towson put up ridiculous numbers. Hopefully we start a qb that is healthy enough to throw the ball.

We need to get up by two TDs early and force Nova into a passing attack. I think we will struggle against the run, but can force turnovers and other miscues if they are forced to pass 30 times instead of running 40.

We beat them last year in their house, hopefully an upset this year keyed by our D like we beat Maine last year!

According to Dave Johnson’s tweet, it’s not looking like Hollis is playing today ...

“Interesting news from Zable Stadium: W&M QB Hollis Mathis is apparently not playing today. He's on the sideline with his jersey but sweatpants.”

Got a little dinged up last week. With the Bye Week next week, several guys may not play, if not needed.

Good first drive. But sloppy plays overall. Fumbles and penalties. Need defense to force a turnover.

Prett even stats at halftime: Villanova 241 yds - W&M 204 yds.
Big differences, we are only 2 for 6 on third down. They are averaging 17 yds. per completion and too many people running free in the defensive backfield.
