Pretty accurate I would think; I expect a low scoring defensive contest that will go down to the final seconds.

With UCF now having one loss out of conference, UC has a shot at jumping the Knights @ Nippert and it could propel the 'Cats back into the headlines. But only if Cincy takes care of business down in Huntington this week. Do that, beat UCF, and the AP voters will start taking notice again. OSU was a "quality loss" and if it's the only one, it's better than dropping a game @ Pitt.

I agree with this.

Especially because Ohio State is killing everyone they play. Our defense actually held OSU to their lowest score of the season so far.

Agree as well.

Fickell even acknoledged in his American Radio Call or whatever it is this week that the blue bloods (Referring to Bama, Clemson, Oklahoma, LSU, Georgia, OSU, maybe a couple others) have elite talent and a big advantage. Outside of that, the talent margin from teams like UCF/Pitt to teams like Marshall/Miami is very small.

This game scares me, but I think we take care of business and get back on track to getting votes in the polls.

If the voters are clueless then that's on them.

To help with motivation - UC players/coaches should go back and watch the low-lights of the UC-Marshall game at Nippert a couple of years ago.

I had blacked that game from my mind along with everything from that season besides the last few minutes of the Miami game. Until Fickell talked about it I forgot it even happened.

RE: Marshall a bellwether for the 2019 season
Marshall is a good team, and they are playing at home.
There are a lot of Marshall players that remind me of Bearcats:
Isaiah Green is a tall active QB who runs well, on a team that runs more than it passes.
RB Brandon Knox from Columbus OH reminds me of Truck Warren.
The Herd’s DL is fast and mobile and has NT Milan Lanier from Cinti Mt Healthy HS
and DT Rodney Crooms from Cinti Winton Woods HS.
This year, 10 year HC Doc Holliday has beaten the best team in the MAC, Ohio,
They led or tied at Boise State for the first three quarters before losing 14-7 to the best
team in the Mountain-West.
Now they play a top AAC Bearcats team at home. This is a tough game for the Bearcats.
Most of us Bearcat fans were zonked out during and after the 2017 season. Marshall won 38-21
in Nippert – and the game wasn’t even that close until the very end.

Pro-football-reference.com has these facts about which state’s High Schools produce
the most current NFL players:

Florida 220
Calif 189
Texas 181
Georgia 126
Ohio 77
Alabama 70
Penn 54
Michigan 40
Near the bottom:
Indiana 18
Kentucky 16
West Virginia 2, right next to Montana and American Samoa.

Marshall does have a lot of talent: from Florida, Georgia, and Ohio HS’s.
A college team doesn’t need a lot local talent to win, but it doesn’t hurt.

Nobody asked me:

Bearcats 33
Thundering Herd 31

RE: Marshall a bellwether for the 2019 season
Listening to the BCJ Podcast it sounds like there's a good chance we get Arquon Bush back for this game and a (slight chance of seeing Doaks too).

Also after listening they've simmered any big fears I had for this game. Laying out the stats, outside of the VMI game their team hasn't really produced much, the Boise game should had never been as close as it was - Marshall only ran 43 plays and garnered 172 total yards going 2-9 on 3rd down. Throw out the VMI game and they have 2 sacks all season and their front seven isn't real great at applying pressure - good for our inexperienced line and Ridder.

RE: Marshall a bellwether for the 2019 season
Bellwether - only if we lose.

Because they are CUSA, we won't get a lot of credit for winning on the road from most casual observers. While there are a few commentators who understand that Marshall football is pretty decent, my emphasis is on the word "few".

So, little credit if we win, a lot of "tsk-tsk" if we lose.

Even so, I still support playing some home and home with somewhat local opponents. My schedule won't let me go to this game, but I am hoping to go to some future drive-able road games.

The bellwether game is UCF. That's pretty much the AAC East Division Crown right there.

Marshall a bellwether for the 2019 season
So 3-1 out of conference. If we did a poll, I’d assume 99.9% of Bearcat fans are pretty happy and would consider that a successful start to the year? Probably what a lot of people would have projected?

What does everyone consider successful the rest of the season? 7-1? 6-2? Conference championship? Host the conference championship?

My prediction.. schedule looks a lot easier than it did preseason, mainly because UCF, USF, and Houston look more beatable and two teams who look surprisingly good (Tulane and SMU) aren't on our schedule.

UC vs UCF - Cincinnati (head says it’s a toss up but I won’t bet against the cats)
UC at Houston - Cincinnati
UC vs Tulsa - Cincinnati
UC at ECU - Cincinnati
UC vs UCONN - Cincinnati
UC at USF - Cincinnati
UC vs Temple - Cincinnati (only because it’s at home)
UC at Memphis - Memphis (only because it’s on the road)

Also expected is a lot of growth between now and the final 2 games so we may have a different view for how those end up.

I had us at 8-4 to start the year, and I'm sticking with it. I think UCF will be a close loss, @ Memphis will be a likely loss, and instead of Houston, I think Temple is a close loss as well. I would LOVE to be wrong, but at 8-4 with a brand new OL and DL, that's a solid year.

Temple got smacked by buffalo. Miami just smacked buffalo. I know that kind of logic can get overdone but the game will be at nippert. I'm feeling good about it

We've lost to much worse versions of Temple at Nippert in games we should've won. That's the biggest horse this team needs to get off of their backs...there is no excuse for losing to Temple as many times in a row as we have.

I would consider making the conference championship game a success.

That logic works with UC, Miami and OSU. ;-) . I'm still not confident in our OL. I'm hoping for 9-3 with but UCF, Houston, Temple and Memphis could be losses.

We have a better chance with Houston since QB King and the WR both reshirting this year.

Ehhh Houston has not impressed me at all this season.. and now King decides to sit the rest of the year and we'll see who follows him. They scare me in name alone. Temple and UCF are at home.. I think at worst, we split them.

That's where I'm at but I felt that way before the season began. Ohio State is blowing everyone's ass open so throw out that game and we've played pretty well against the teams we're supposed to beat. UCF is not the UCF of previous years and we have them at home. Winning that game on Friday night will be huge and key to winning the East Division. I like how Fick has this team playing after Ohio St. I said 10-2 before the season began and I still think that is possible but 9-3 is more likely. We may have gotten a scheduling break this year not playing SMU and/or Tulane. The key is Ridder IMO. He needs to play well on the big stage.
