College Football Week 5
Doesn't shape up as a particularly exciting week in the AAC or around College Football. Memphis stayed undefeated and gave Navy its first loss 35-23 on Thursday in Memphis. Temple is favored by 8.5 at home over Georgia Tech Saturday. SMU favored by 7.5 @USF.

How far has Houston fallen? Houston is actually a 7.5 underdog @ North Texas.

Justin Fuente's buttocks meet hot seat if he loses to Dook at home. I see lots of empty seats in the stadium. That didn't happen under Franklin Beamer.

S_hit Babcock had to hate losing to us last year in the Military Bowl. Enjoy the rest of the season with your boy Fuente.

It's an interesting contrast, VT went with the younger hot gun coach in Fuentes, while Duke who has historically struggled has found stability with an old veteran in Cutcliffe. Duke trending up, VT seems to get worse as the years are going by with Fuentes.

He's probably on the fans' hot seat. Not sure about the Administration though based upon his buyout of $15M after this season per this:

Quote:If Fuente is fired before his contract expires on Dec. 15, 2024, he is owed a buyout, which doesn't fall under seven figures until 2022:

After the 2018 season: $15 million
2019: $15 million
2020: $12.5 million
2021: $10 million
2022: $7.5 million
2023: $5 million
2024: $2 million

His agent deserves an extra tailored suit and gold wrist watch this Christmas...jeez. That kind of buyout after only 3 seasons at Memphis of all places is nuts.

Yea, it's hard not to see the contrast last night, but Babcock wasn't around to feel the meltdown with TT. However, Cutcliffe is basically a five hundred coach in his now long tenure at Duke so it's not like he's lit the program on fire. I think that's what makes bending over at home and taking it from them like that all the more damaging. His 4th year in and the trajectory is clearly on the decline with little uptick in sight. Bud Foster used to be their ace in the hole and that is gone, and he's also leaving(retiring). They're in a bad spot. Maybe he'll turn it around, but at this point it's tracking like Tennessee. Those buyout numbers make a change prohibitive. VT is another one of those jobs like WV or UT where is you're a newer head coach who's having some success(like Fickell) you think about carefully. The grass isn't always greener. They may not qualify for the Military Bowl this year. LOL

It’s all about the size of the fan base. Even though they now stink, the Corn has millions of fans (and obviously OSU). I have some friends that live in Omaha. Nebraska football is all that state has. There are no other sports options.

With respects to Whit Babcock, time has demonstrated we dodge a major bullet when he bailed on us. In addition to their current losing ways, the OOC scheduling has been a
Major problem (multiple FCS games, 7 year deal with Old Dominion, screwing over ECU, etc)

Throw in a Mercedes-Benz for that deal. What about S_hit Babcock? Gullible galoot took us down Cadaverville Program Killer Lane and now he's stuck with Fuente for years to come. SMDH.

Someone who thought at the time Babs was a great hire - my hand is raised. I'm so glad he left to be a Hokie Chokie.

Whitdafuq Babcock was trying to punch above his weight class when he was here and has not improved much apparently. He should send a thank you note to his predecessor for having all of the design and much of the funding for the Nippert rebuild sitting on his desk with a bow on it when he moved into the new job. It’s miraculous that UC football somehow survived the tenures of both he and his clown show golf buddy.

I was not a fan. Told him that in the reception tent before the 1st military bowl when he admitted he had a candidate list of 1 when he hired his pal.

It's true Cutcliffe is basically .500 over his career. But Duke, to their credit imo, stuck with him through his first 5 pretty tough seasons without a lot of tangible progress until the 5th year. Since then he's gone 52-35 with 3 bowl victories so far in this, his seventh season. I have a hard time thinking that any other coach was going to turn Duke into a powerhouse, especially overnight. Sure they'll probably never get close to even sniffing the playoffs even if they expand, but they've created a very stable situation for themselves since Cutcliffe is very unlikely to go anywhere else at his age. He's been a really good fit for them imo.

To think I got bamboozled by this pair of door-to-door vacuum cleaner salesman is a poor reflection on my judge of character. Next time we get a "shiny golden turd" delivered at the UC athletics door, someone please hold me accountable.
