RE: CAA Signs Media Partnership with FloSports
When Drexel played in the Paradise Jam (at Liberty University) FloHoops had the games so i subscribed. I have a relatively simple ROKU TV in our bedroom that we mainly use for Netflix, HULU and the such, but since FLOHoops had a ROKU channel, I figured I'd watch the game there so I could free up my laptop to Live Tweet the game.

Long story short: it took about 5 minutes of game time for me to end up in my office on my Desktop. Their ROKU feed was choppy and insufficient at best. Now, full disclosure, this was back in late 2017, but the quality did not really inspire confidence.

Personally, right now, I am at a crossroads. Along with Dan, I run a website. I've spent a lot of time on CAATV (not to mention the 1000's of miles I've driven to away games) to cover this team. We run our site out of our pockets. No advertising money, no subscriber money, and no Patreon or anything of the sorts. For me, FloHoops just is not worth it to primarily cover and follow a single team.

I won't be subscribing. Now its just a matter of where I go from there.

Now, what would be nice is something JB suggested over on Facebook: give a free FloHoops sub to the season ticket holders. Frankly, I doubt that will happen, but you never know.

The other people that I worry about are the students. We are all mostly alums or fans. We have money. We may or may not spend it. What about the students paying tuition? What does this do to their access to their respective school's teams and their viewing of away games? I'm sure their disposable income is not nearly what ours is.

Anyway, I know its only 24 hours out, but frankly, I am extremely disappointed in the league and its leadership.

RE: CAA Signs Media Partnership with FloSports
Its awful.
Seems like there is no redeeming quality to this provider save for the cash payment they gave the league.
They don't even have an Android app?

As I mentioned on the CofC board...
Either the conference is in such dire straights that self publishing through CAA.TV was no longer economically viable which would be really bad.
or
The leadership is a bunch of greedy !$%$%$#%

Monetizing the small but loyal fan base is just so wrong and annoying.
Its one thing to bend to ESPN, pay and open up to the massive market penetration that they offer? FLo?WTF is that?

We had options, including ESPN+.

Chose Flo for $$$ and they allowed for RSN distribution

RE: CAA Signs Media Partnership with FloSports
While everyone seems to be focused on ESPN+, I kind of wish that the league could have worked something out with NBC.

Most of the RSN's in the CAA region are NBC Sports or NBC Sports affiliates. They have a "My Teams" app that could be used for streaming many games. And I'm sure they could have figured out a way to get the conference basketball tournament back on NBCSN. That probably would have been the conferences best option for exposure.

With the new deal, I do like that teams will still be able to put games on their RSN's, but it seems like the schools will still have to pay for it. And it will be interesting to see how many games we actually get on CBSSN this year besides the conference tournament games.

It would be nice if schools could get a group discount from Flo in exchange for X amount of students paying. For example, if Flo would allow students to get November through February for $50 total, students could pay that along with tuition before the Fall semester starts, and schools could forward that money to Flo.

Article from the Charleston paper talking more about the CAA deal. $1.25 million a year. 8 CAA games will be shown on CBSSN this year, with a possibility of up to 16 in subsequent years. Schools will be able to make ad revenue from the FloSports feeds.

Awesome, more games on a network that few have. Great plan.

Looks like Flo is getting some complaints with their MLS coverage. If they are having severe issues with a major professional sports league, what will a small NCAA conference deal with?

Let me edit. We will deal with the same issues.

The CAA will just do nothing. They will just deal with it.

I still dont belive they will give CAA signups the $12.50 per month rate without an annual commitment. DC United signups pay $21.57/month it they do not commit annually. I could see the CAA matching what DC united gets but i dont see how we would get a better deal than that

RE: CAA Signs Media Partnership with FloSports
The MLS regular season is over seven months, which is a lot longer than the NCAA Basketball season. OTOH, a FloSports CAA package lets you watch games of all CAA teams, whereas FloSports doesn't help D.C. United fans watch other MLS clubs. One thing that could matter to people is if FloSports games can be watched on demand. People could be more willing to pay if they could watch their favorite team live and watch other games played at the same time later on.

RE: CAA Signs Media Partnership with FloSports
https://caasports.com/news/2019/7/17/mor...-2019.aspx says the Football package includes 53 games and costs $12.50 per month or $95.88 per year ($7.99 per month). If Men's Basketball costs the same amount, the announcement of $12.50 per month without mentioning a year commitment is accurate. If you only want Men's Basketball from November through February, $50.00 is a lot cheaper at $12.50 per month than $119.96 at $29.99 per month. I might pay $50.00. I certainly wouldn't pay $119.96. If Football and Men's Basketball are separate packages that both need to be paid for when the seasons overlap in November, it would be six months from September through February with two payments in November for a total of $87.50. I don't know if you can only pay by calendar month or if you can pay for any 30 or 31 day period you want. The first three FloSports Football games are on August 29 and 31, and I don't think anybody will pay $12.50 just for those out of conference games at Delaware, Stony Brook, and Maine.

Cheapest (per month) FLO rate I can find is for DC United season ticket holders at $6/month. Requires a full year payment in advance, but that’s probably the one I’ll do since I’ll use FLO year round for JMU sports plus WGI/BOA/DCI event streaming. I’m lucky to know DCU season ticket holders though. Otherwise, the CAA deal is the lowest I could find.

47 fall Olympic sports events will air on FloSports. 28 are conference games.

All the fall conference tourneys (men’s and women’s soccer, field hockey, women’s volleyball) will air exclusively on Flo.

JMU has the most with 11 events scheduled.

RE: CAA Signs Media Partnership with FloSports
So it appears that every CAA MBB home game will be on FloSports, so there's really no chance of avoiding it if you're a big enough fan that you want to watch your team's games on TV. Since I attend almost all Drexel home games, this won't be needed for my until January, since Drexel's road games will be controlled by their OOC opponents. So TV games that I used to watch for free will now set me back $25, hoping I can just subscribe for January and February.

RE: CAA Signs Media Partnership with FloSports
I may go to Hofstra's second home game. I think I'll pay $12.50 for December through February, although I'd have to pay for March for the first two rounds of the CAA Tournament. One question is if you can make a month start at any time as opposed to being a calendar month. Hofstra's first home game in December is on December 10, so if I can pay for three months for December 10 through March 9, that would cover the CAA Tournament games not on TV. If I do that, I'll have to listen to the opener against San Jose State without watching it and listen to or ignore the game hosting non-Division I New York Tech. I might not have paid $90 for three months or $120 for four months.

Seahawk fans can get all games but the season opening home opener against non D1 school for $50, a 4 month subscription if they sign up day of UNC game and let their subscription lapse between the Charlotte and Mercer games

Looking at teams' websites, 10 CAA games will be on CBSSN. Only 2 are on weekends, and one of them is at 8:00 P.M. There are a couple of Thursday games at 6:00 P.M. instead of 7:00 P.M. for TV.

William & Mary at Elon on Monday December 30 at 7:00 P.M.
James Madison at UNC Wilmington on Thursday January 2 at 7:00 P.M.
Drexel at Towson on Thursday January 9 at 6:00 P.M.
Hofstra at Northeastern on Saturday January 11 at 8:00 P.M.
Delaware at Hofstra on Thursday January 23 at 7:00 P.M.
Charleston at James Madison on Thursday on January 30 at 7:00 P.M.
Towson at Delaware on Thursday February 6 at 7:00 P.M.
Charleston at Hofstra on Thursday February 13 at 7:00 P.M.
Delaware at Charleston on Thursday February 27 at 6:00 P.M.
Towson at Northeastern on Saturday February 29 at 4:00 P.M. (Northeastern's website says Saturday February 29 and Towson's website says Sunday March 1)

If you think the same teams as last season will be good, the biggest games are Hofstra at Northeastern and Charleston at Hofstra.

Here is how many times each team will be on CBSSN:
Hofstra: 3
Delaware: 3
Towson: 3
Charleston: 3
Northeastern: 2
James Madison: 2
William & Mary: 1
Drexel: 1
Elon: 1
UNC Wilmington: 1

Oklahoma State at Charleston on November 13 at 9pm is also airing on CBSSN, so that makes 4 appearances for Charleston.

That is 11 total on CBSSN. The CAA in 2012-13 showed 15 regular season national telecasts on NBCSN. 8 were shown in 2013-14, 7 in 2014-15, and just 6 in 2015-16.
