Cajuns squeak by Texas Southern
77-6 05-mafia

Coaches mutually agree to play 10 minute quarters in the 3rd and 4th after a 56-6 halftime score.

UL played 3 QBs and nearly every player on the bench.

Actually, we played 4 QB's.

No turnovers. No punts. No field goals.

Just 11 TD's.

Back in the stone age when we ran the wishbone under Larry Lacewell we beat East Texas State 77-0. It was just a track meet on our part. If I remember right we didn't attempt a pass.

Yep, being a former player, I was feeling for them. We pulled our starters in the second quarter, with about 7 mins to go in the half. Then when the second and third, and fourth string guys get in there, you can't tell or expect them to back off. Reducing the 3rd and 4th quarters to 10 mins was a first for me, but thought it the right thing to do.

We won't have another game like this the rest of the season, so it was cool to see the players that don't usually play get playing time and see the camaraderie on the sidelines.

We have been on the opposite end on many of these. Good move by our coaching staff to agree to 10 min. 2nd half qtrs. I've never seen that before, but if there ever was a need, it was this one. Good experience for many players down on the depth chart.

We famously beat Texas Southern 83-10 several years back. We all got 73 percent off gear at the Design Shoppe because of that the following Monday. About ran the poor place out of business.

I believe that since the game didn't go a minimum of 55 minutes, bets on the game don't count.

You know someone had a parlay that got messed up because of this.

The NCAA rules allow for a running clock and doing that would have been faster than two 10-minute quarters with regular stoppages in place. With a running clock the second half would have been over in 30-35 minutes (allowing a time gap between quarters).

My first thought reading this was what kind of idiot would bet on Texas Southern, but then I realized they could bet on the Cajuns.

Still I imagine with how historically bad Southern is, a lot of Casino's wouldn't have taken bets on the game...

To be fair, UL paid them to play a full game. We had at least 67 player having gotten playing time; many were freshman. This is valuable for film study for these players. I think the 2 twenty minute quarters made perfect sense and no players were injured and the Cajuns only scored twice in the 2nd half. 6 different running backs scored so it is not like we were pounding them with the top 3 guys. I think Coach Napier managed the situation perfectly.

I stayed to the very end....something I don't usually do. I was raised by a father that always left early to beat the traffic. Our traffic issues after a game aren't that bad lately, but it's hard for me to stay till the very end. I enjoyed seeing the subs make plays followed by the reception they got from the starters when they got back on the sidelines.

BTW, According to an article by Buckley in today's Daily Advertiser running the clock is no longer allowed under NCAA rules.

Are the Cajun fans flocking back to this board? Only to run off when conference play starts and they begin losing again?

The ones posting in this thread have never left. I post here occasionally but I am not a fanatical message board person. (I have a life outside the internet) I read this forum, but if I do not have anything constructive to add, I do not post anything here or on RP.

The reason others do not post here has nothing to do with wins and losses, but their perceived treatment of Cajun posters by the mods, which has not been represented by a Cajun fan in some time. That does not bother me.

One more thing, I joined with this forum with the "CW Fishman" name in 2013, but I had another user name before that. I was overseas for a while and lost track of the password and I was unable to get the forum administrators to find a way to recover it. So I have been reading this forum for many years, long before we added all of these newer teams.

Message board politics, what can you do?

I hope you all come back. Will make this a more lively place. Arkansas State fans seem to have checked out with the monotony of winning 8 games a year.
