App managed to lose 31-10 and 41-10 to two playoff teams. Troy almost beat a playoff bound Clemson team.

If you are to be considered in the top half of the conference, it's likely you would have a better showing. This isn't to disparage Georgia Southern but rather to point out the reality that they appear to have regressed, thus far. It's two games which isn't much information to go off of but as of now, I'd be worried.

I'd be worried for the same reason I'm worried about App's defense following the hirin....the Charlotte game. If App plays like that again, or consistently, they can probably expect at least four losses and no realistic shot at a 4th Sun Belt title.

Hard to learn or make judgement from a game that was nothing but quicksand.

I don’t recall any option team ever giving LSU a run for their money with more than a week to prepare. LSU’s roster has more NFL talent in a single season than the Sun Belt has as a conference. They have had 65 guys drafted in the past decade. That kind of talent disparity means something in week 1. Especially for an option team who had no idea how to scheme for LSU’s offense.

Alabama has been abusing them because LSU has been playing offense like it's 1997. They will have a problem with LSU with what they're doing now, especially since Alabama could only score 20 on them last year.

Its early, but to say LSU isn't that good is pretty reckless take. They are a double digit win club in the SEC West. That alone makes them a GOOD team.

You have to evolve with the times as rules change, training and coaching methods change, and the offenses that feed your system in HS change.

That said, the Georgia Southern offense of 1998 and especially 1999 was just about the most beautiful thing I have ever seen on a football field not counting homecoming courts.

The question is has their defense regressed or has Texas' offense improved? Giving up over 400 yards passing to a Texas offense isn't a good omen for a game against Alabama, who will most certainly have a better defense.

One thing is for certain, Alabama could put up 400 yards passing on LSU's defense, if Texas was able to, but LSU's offense isn't likely to be able to match their production against the Texas defense.
