RE: Recruits for 2019-2020
.....Meanwhile...............SEMO added a teammate of Vonnie Patterson's from John A. Logan CC, and an impressive(?) big guard transfer from Nebraska to fill out their roster. And they got another (highly-regarded (I think)) PF from McNeese St. who I believe will have to sit a year.

Looks like they sort of had a Chattanooga-type housecleaning:

SEMO departures

Must have been some pretty bad mojo hanging 'round the Cape.
And now you know more than you *ever* wanted to know about SEMO hoops.

We offered this guy per Twitter back in July and he visited this weekend.
His twitter feed is full of nothing but retweets of his visit.

Smooth. Not a lot to see to tell if he has range, but he can sure get to the hole with panache. Probably too rich for our blood, but one never knows. He's been getting several other offers lately, including UAB and FIU. Looks to me like if he waits 'til Spring he'll get some pretty high offers. But as Rod stated, he did have his official visit here about 10-12 days ago.

Also......a few weeks later, we offered Cam Bryant of Jonesboro, GA, who reminds one a bit of Burrell, and also has made an official visit:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7eynGNT...e=youtu.be

Both these players are apparently not shy about playing D, either.
"Word on the street" has it that these two may be friends - if only lately thru AAU or because both have been recruited by the Bucs. Don't quote me on that, but I've heard things to that effect.

[I believe these should be in a new thread for 2020-2021, since that's when they'd potentially be freshmen here, but I'll hold off starting that one. Feel free, Fan1, to move this to such a thread if you wish.]

Furthermore...........as of today we've officially offered Nigerian shot-blocking jumping jack Gideon George, who's a soph at New Mexico JC.

Gideon George goes up quick and with authority

This is a player I'd like to see in blue & gold, but weak in FTs and no range.

Anyone care to break down our needs after this season, recruiting wise?

WAY, WAY, WAY too early. Who knows who all we'll lose for various reasons, who will pan out, etc. Pointless to speculate.

So we've no seniors this year? Surely, we'll have needs based on those attritions alone.

Our biggest need, pretty much like it always has been is going to be Bigs.
Hugely and Gussan are both seniors.

RE: Recruits for 2019-2020
Coming back next year should be 7-0 200 Octavion Corley, 6-9 212 Charlie Weber and 6-6 218 Damari Monsanto. Depending on how they pan out, the need for bigs will seem more severe, or less so. They do seem short of muscle.

With 6-4 200 Bo Hodges, 6-4 190 Vonnie Patterson and 6-5 200 Ledarius Brewer, we shouldn't be hurting at big guard/small forward.

And Daivien Williamson at point and Patrick Good shooting leaves us pretty good at small guard, although a third would be good. If Bo continues to develop his shooting and passing skills, that becomes less pressing.

Daivien, Patrick, Bo and Ledarius are all fairly well proven on the D1 level. Bo and Patrick have had injury problems.

So yes, of course, bigs with some muscle would be good. Our returning bigs are promising but not muscular and less proven than the guards. But the cupboard should not be bare. And Poster has a point. We don't know yet how folks will progress this year, and how health issues will go.

I was looking at Verbal Commits and it seems every position has plenty of offers except for that coveted big man. I was thinking Weber could play as a 4 in a couple of years. Of course, I'm psychic without having seen him play.

I've gone 180 degrees in my thinking on Weber. From the high school highlight videos, I was afraid that he might not have the muscle or athleticism for D1 play.

However, in the Euro video he shows a remarkable range of skills - shooting with range, rebounding, passing, help defense, plus great court sense and confident, aggressive play. Like Forbes says, he hasn't had a big man with that skill set in his time here.

But as you say, we're trying to be 'psychic': making D1 predictions from situations that aren't the same, for a young man that is still developing.

I could see him in a year being a real difference maker in the middle. But it would probably help to pair him with a power forward type banger. Which we don't yet have. There wouldn't be another Jeromy Rodriguez lurking in the JUCO ranks, would there?

We need a Dennis Rodman prototype, without the mascara.

He's got the body and hops (if not the range of skills) of a young Zakee Wadood. Apparently he's getting some attention now, mentioned in Street & Smith's preseason Super Sophomores list. And this Twitter from JUCO Advocate:

"Kind of surreal seeing Gideon George on this list. 16 months ago we were with him on a broken concrete court with busted rims in Owerri Nigeria. What an amazing journey for this young man.
@GideonOmohkudu"

That's the kind of physical match that would indeed be nice to see for the Bucs.

The video clips on Twitter are using the Darth Bucky/Swashbuckler Sword logos. Is this a hoax?
