College basketball season stretching almost into October now. Great for the fans but not so sure about the players. Got to make it tougher academically including travel dates earlier and earlier into the first semester.

Tough stretch about a month into the season. Rest of the OOC schedule is meh.

Seems like college basketball could gain more interest in early season games if the season started after thanksgiving to reduce the competition with college football. That could push the tournament to April, but I don't see anything wrong with that other than the "March Madness" moniker wouldn't be accurate.

Would be nice to have a FB/BB doubleheader since things are starting so early now. Could increase BB (and FB, in some cases) attendance...

This schedule is better on paper than many recent ones at least. If I’m not overlooking anything, that’s only one non d1 game, right?

Montevallo is D2. Looks like Thomas U is NAIA although they may be transitioning to D2.

Non-conference home schedule:

Morehouse
Bama A&M
Utah Valley
Mount St. Mary's
Lamar
Memphis
Montevallo (D2)
North Alabama
Thomas University (NAIA)

RE: Men's Basketball Schedule Released
1. You’re not supposed to expect decent home games anymore that helps SOS, I guess. Memphis is being charitable.
2. They did decide to replace some crap road games with Texas and Kentucky. That’s fantastic. Don’t understand the games out of state vs ASU and Duquesne. Just why?
3. We usually have a game of the Memphis game magnitude during the first 10 days of Dec. Though, not always at home. In this case, would expect both schools to see what or if their game would compete against their other sports in drawing fans on this day(when putting schedules together).
4. Yes, on paper a few of those home games connecting us to and leading up to Kentucky do look good on paper. We know there’s an eye test and name recognition that comes when looking at strength of schedules in March and when drawing the common fan to games. Will those games help in regards to that?
5. Speaking of putting butts in seats. I’m guilty of this, myself. We’ve gotta start showing up for the blazers and not for the excitement of playing a big name opponent. Don’t matter if we are playing a swac team or a high major, blue blood. Don’t matter if we are playing Rice/F_Us or Marshall & WKU. We’ve gotta be there. Show up, get off your butts and make noise(that pertains to football, too.)
6. If the home slate will be that bad, Cut ticket prices down a bit or do some bogo offers.

Dang, I missed Thomas. I wish we would stop doing this.

Because they let other much better "done deal" games fall through and had to scramble to take what they could get.

Would that be related to a game with one of our former conference mates?

RE: Men's Basketball Schedule Released
DePaul game fell through due to their own wrong doings and they could be in trouble. Kentucky filed that spot. We also told Pearl to pound sand due to his ridiculous demands. We tried to schedule Georgia a home and home and they backed off not us. I have no problem playing any in state school. Duquesne game is one day before Gasparilla bowl and if we get to chose will most likely play in that bowl against aac opponent.

#5. Totally agree. It’s time we stop whining and show up to games. Give these kids a home court advantage. I’ll be there to watch UAB. Time to stop bitching and show up to games.
