My personal opinion: They are power ratings, i.e. how powerful you think each team is at the current moment. In the early season, you aren't going to get a real clear picture. That's just the nature of it.

As I've said before, anyone who says they are throwing out what happened the previous season is living a lie.

You don't like that App gave up 41 points to Charlotte? Then you're using information from last year or else how do you know how to put that score into any context?

I'm not going to tell anyone how to do their Power Rankings, but doing them as a "let's give every Sun Belt team a blank slate and assume what happened last year is relevant for every other team" is not an interesting way to do it to me. It's just a personal preference.

If Arkansas State would have lost to UNLV then we would have twenty posts on here talking about us losing an OOC game. However, us beating an MW team at their place 43-17 provides almost no response. No, UNLV is not a great team, but to dominate a team at their place whom is a member of a conference regarded as much better than ours, I would hope we would get some kudos. I do not think we deserve #1 but I would definitely put us in the Top 3.

You know fussing at them won't help. Winning tends to make the best impression in the long run. Let's go win some more games. That's all that matters.

I won't pretend to understand how others do a Power Rating but for me the stAte win was impressive enough to move you guys into the top 4. UNLV's history says that it was a game stAte should have won but you did it convincingly so that's why I moved you guys up there. I'm not willing to drop App or Troy down until they loose and with all of the wins this week I just simply had a hard time choosing which team goes where.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind it either way (overall strength or weekly evaluation) as long as everyone can come to an agreement. Maybe a mod can create a set of rules that everyone can agree with.

You could mark us 10th as long as we are winning. We've never been 2-0 in the history of the program. So my perception of where we should be is probably skewed.

Hey look on the bright side...we are arguing about where our teams should be after a week where we won most of our games! It could be like our less fortunate brethren across the street arguing about piss poor play! https://csnbbs.com/thread-882337.html

When you continuously blitz, while manning up on the outside, forcing safeties down into the box only to be taken out to cover the RB or slotback being sent in motion, leaving your corners exposed and massive holes in the middle, it gets frustrating.

Give Gasaparato or DJ Smith a chance to create a game plan similar to what App had been using with Woody before it's too late. UNC is going to wreck the defense the way it was called on Saturday.

RE: Week 2 Power Ratings
1. App St
2. Louisiana
3. Arkansas State
4. ULM
5. Troy
6. Coastal
7. Georgia Southern
8. Georgia State
9. South Alabama
10. Texas St

1. I can't bring myself to believe that Drink will allow the defense we saw on Saturday to persist. He seemed more than a little disappointed and would understand much of it is related to play calling. I think App misses Myquon Stout being able to keep the second level of the defense clean, but it's no excuse. The lack of adjustments to what Charlotte's adjustments were astonish me. Reminded me of the Miami game where they ran bubble screen after bubble screen and then hit the fly or wheel route.

2. Louisiana looks good but I believe Mississippi State is a middle of the road P5 team this season and Liberty appears to be going through some growing pains. Hard to judge how improved they may be as of yet.

3. Arkansas State came close against what appears to be a top half AAC team. Then they blow out perennial cellar dweller UNLV. Same story as Louisiana, it's hard to tell how much better they may be this season than before.

4. ULM is an underrated team in my opinion. They look very athletic and Evans appears to be the Top QB in the conference at the moment. He's making good reads, can run, and really puts the ball on the money

5. Troy didn't play Week 2 and beat Campbell easily. Hard to tell where their at thus far. Have no qualms about them being anywhere from 1 to 5.

6. Coastal loses to EMU in a game that they were playing well in initially. They beat a Kansas team that reminds me a bit of UCLA. Programs with potential but seem to have coaches who went there due to there being next to no expectations.

7. Georgia Southern...what is going on? First you get man handled by LSU, which isn't necessarily a surprise given how LSU is playing at the moment, but 55 - 3? We aren't FCS anymore. Then you play a relatively close game with Maine. They are ranked Number 5 in the Any Given Saturday Top 25 poll but come on man. As a program seeming to take a step forward with the Chad, I'd expect more, even with Werts being injured.

8. Georgia State looks good with a win over Tennessee and Top 15 FCS Furman. But Tennessee is bad with what appears to be a lame duck coach and a disinterested roster and Furman is still FCS. Hope to see more improvement from the team. Being able to come from behind regardless of opponent isn't something that would've been as easy with previous GSU squads.

9. South Alabama played a tight game with Nebraska who appears to have been overrated heading into the season (surprise) then plays a tight game through 2 quarters with Jackson State. Was hoping to see more consistency from a team still trying to make a statement in the Sun Belt.

10. Texas State played well enough to win on defense against Wyoming but much like last year, you can only ask them to do so much. Second half drives were punt, interception, punt, punt, missed field goal, end of game. That's not how you close out an opponent hellbent on playing old school ball.

Believe us, we expect more too and so do our players and coaches. Injuries at key positions really isn’t that great of an excuse but it has lended to some of our problems so far. This past game against Maine, there were three distinct errors in the red zone that can be pointed to that if we hadn’t made we would have been up by 3-4 touchdowns. It’s in the coaches hands to tighten these mistakes up and fix our game plan.

This was hard to do, and I hate to put the defending champs 7th, but for the most part all 10 teams are pretty even IMO

Hey Eric, how do you think your team would do against a top-10 FCS playing Jacob Huesman, not having Darrynton Evans, and having one of your guards playing center and contributing like negative 40 yards of offense because of 3 high snaps?

1. App State (-) - #1 until beaten
2. Troy (-) - see above
3. Georgia Southern (-) - Back in the win column. LSU is nasty.
4. Louisiana (+1)
5. Georgia State (+1) - Panthers 2-0 on top of the "standings" with App. Impressive start.
6. Arkansas State (+1) - Could be an inspired, dangerous team
7. ULM (-3) - I'd like to rank ULM higher but a loss is a loss and the league only had 2 this week
8. South Alabama (+1)
9. Coastal (+1) - Nice win. Hopefully at years end it still looks nice and Kansas isn't that bad.
10. Texas State (-2) - Only team in the league without a win yet

This might be the toughest year ever to win the SBC. When your #9 team beats Kansas and #7 team loses to Florida State in OT and both are still ranked in the bottom half. If everyone can beat everyone, most likely we won’t have a ranked team this year...while Marshall might walk through CUSA, cracks the Top 25 and CUSA fans will boast about their Top 25 team all year.

RE: Week 2 Power Ratings
These will move around a bit in the coming weeks as it's still early, and most teams have something to be of so far. Week 3 will tell us a lot more.

1. Arkansas State - Game was a pickem, lead by 33 late in the 4th. Really looks they are jazzed up to play for Blake and Wendy. May she rest well.

2. Louisiana - Blowout of an underrated Liberty program. Recruiting and coaching has all the makings of a top level Sun Belt program.

3. Troy - Bye Week. 282 yards against the #1 FCS passing defense. Held Campbell to -34 3rd quarter yards, and 68 total yards midway in the 4th. 5 sacks versus a team that gave up less than one per game in 2018.

4. App State - Ted Roof's defense was very disappointing. This will be a liability moving forward. Roof was already a so so hire and this could be what a Roof defense looks like.

5. Georgia Southern - Solid win over Top 15 FCS. These teams always give us fits and our conference doesn't always win them.

5. Georgia State - See above. GSU came out as expected after a big win, but pulled it together. This shows me a lot that they didn't cave.

7. ULM - Nearly beat a floundering FSU team. Really want to put them higher, but we really don't know how good FSU actually is. The teams above them have done equally as well.

8. Coastal - Nice P5 win over Les Miles. Same reasoning as above. Lot of teams have on this list have learned they have the ability to play well if they stay focused.

9. Texas State - Played Wyoming close. The Texas A&M game was a blowout but there were some signs that the team was improved. Maybe it was just the uniforms. The have the coaching staff to move up in the rankings this season, though, and will likely do so.

10. South Alabama - Don't know much about these guys. Pulled themselves out of a big hole against Nebraska, but were down early to the cornhuskers. Not sure they are a good team either. Gave up 265 yards to a bottom ten FCS program in Jackson State. Defense has to get better.
