Really proud of SMU so far. They’ve really been the bright spot of our league so far this year in that they are winning these close-spread games against some of the better teams from the G4.

I know we’ve had some other good games, but most have been wins against bad competition or losses against some of the best teams in the country. The closer games have been those against the better G4s and the lower P5s. SMU is winning those, where others (cough USF cough UConn) are losing them.

SMU made a good hire with Dykes I think he likes it there and wants to be there he knows how a P5 job can still be a crappy situation if you are not the right fit

that is not to say he will not leave one day, but I think Tech has their coach for a while now and I am not sure they would go after Dykes or that he would take the job if offered (especially if Tech was firing yet another coach)

I think Dykes has to prove something and something he wants to prove as well....I liked Morris, but he was riding on the back of his coordinator credentials as much as anything and he ended up GTFOing SMU a lot faster than I thought and did not leave them in the best situation......Dykes does not have that ability he needs to prove something before he can leave and I don't think he will leave for the first offer that comes along either

nor do I think SMU will be in the shape they were after Morris or Jones if Dykes does leave

Great win by SMU. UNT has a good team this year and you guys dominated. I will be pulling for you guys the rest of the way. Your team showed a lot of class in Jonesboro and they definitely have my respect. Sonny Dykes is a perfect G5 coach and he’s at a place that wants him and he wants to be at. He has it trending in the right direction. Hopefully we can get another series going with you guys.

I went to SMU in the 90s and I have followed the football and basketball programs closely ever since. That said, can you please tell me when UNT became a rivalry game for SMU? That is news to me.

It's a little one sided, TBH. SMU isn't really ready to acknowledge it as a 'rivalry' yet.

But we've started playing each other on a regular basis, as I believe we should, due to the fact that we need some help with a game people will care about and put butts in the seats. They probably brought 5-10k yesterday, and that helps.

Plus, I hope they drill Cal next week, as they are capable of doing, IMO.

Lately they have been good but they are still a C-USA team with no name recognition. If we win it is because we should. If we lose, it just sinks us further in football obscurity. TCU and any other regional P5 are the schools we should play every year in OOC, ideally Baylor.

Haven’t they won 4 of the last 10? That is not beating up your sister. But I truly admire how you disrupted the big boys during the Dickerson era. It was beautiful.

Yeah, like I said, we aren't keen on calling them a rival. But they probably brought 10k to the stands yesterday, paid, and so we schedule them.

As far as scheduling the likes of Baylor, TTU, etc. I'm all for that, as everybody is, but of course they are going to say the same thing about us; i.e. leave 'em behind, playing them does nothing for our program, we have everything to lose by doing so, etc., etc. And unlike UNT, we don't buy 10k tickets to away games, even TCU. It's reasons like that we haven't been able to schedule Texas since you were in school - not once.

So, UNT is the best of some not so great options for right now. Hopefully scheduling picks up.

I guess they have, but what does that prove? We have been bad at football for the better part of the last 30 years. Beating us during this time is nothing to brag about.
Again, we gain nothing by playing UNT. Why not play Baylor or Okie St or Arkansas instead? Beating a P5 school means something and these schools will bring as many fans as UNT do.
