With all due respect, I want to play the best P5 teams/brands we can and not just because they're in a regional bubble. We've already scheduled a middlin' Indiana and Pitt in the coming years. Does that get the Nip sold out? Of those programs mentioned by CliftonAve, I would take Kentucky and WVU over the others. Playing an SEC team in the Nip does appeal to me greatly I might add. Now, if those regional P5's would replace the annual MyAMuh and/or the FCS exhibition game then that's the best deal right there.

Bolded, that's really a critical element, isn't it? UC went to the Rose Bowl a year ago with few believing they would beat UCLA. Had the Bearcats lost a competitive game there, we'd all be pointing to the opener at Nippert as a chance to even the series.

So flip that to this season. UC goes to a hostile environment in Columbus with a young team, battles to the end and comes up a little short. How much fun would it be to get a rematch the following season in Cincy? Yet these two teams may never meet again.

Other than a big payday for UC, the one off road games against elite programs probably aren't good for building a program.

They are if you win them.

Except they won’t win so it only adds a loss.

Then what are your peak expectations for the program? Is our ceiling simply winning a bowl game and being ranked in the bottom of the top 25 at the end of the year? If that's the case, why hold on to CLF?

I'll bet my bottom $$ that CLF has his sights set higher.

NY6 games and positioning for conference realignment. Losing in Columbus helps neither of those, while winning there vs somewhere else makes little difference. Especially only winning maybe 1 out of 10.

Playing elite programs on the road is a recipe for disaster. Even Boise State during their run didn’t have great success on the road against top of line power programs. UCF, Houston, and Boise State did most of their best work at home or at neutral sites.

Basically UC needs to get back to the big stage in the post season because that provides the best opportunity to change the perception of the program.

its not a philosophy of fear at all. its understanding the system is rigged and taking your best shot within a rigged system. half the country has no chance at the playoffs. this was proven twice by ucf. best you can do is get the ny6 bowl. best chance of that is by going undefeated. then you would get both. you get a shot at a big program AND you get the big bowl game with the whole nation watching a top 20 Bearcat team in primetime. until college football becomes a legitimate competition, scheduling for undefeated seasons is the smart move for any non p5 school.

We could get in if we took Notre Dame's approach--play and beat the big boys while going undefeated. Then they have to give you a chance.

Well as i thought was likely, this game will be DEVASTATING to our programs progress. its one thing to lose to a kentucky or pitt by 14, its a whole other level to get humiliated like this. theres no hiding the lower tier of our program now. nothing to say to recruits, sponsors or fans about this. it certainly doesnt give our AD much to say to fickell next time a P5 school comes calling. These 1-off road games against elite teams are just a TERRIBLE idea if you want to build a program. this game alone doesnt necessarily destroy our season, but the ripple effect certainly could. even if we went undefeated the rest of the way, would anybody in the country really feel like we're an elite team? would our rep really improve? Nope. it would only grow the perceived difference between P5 and G5. how impressed will recruits really be?

What do you think the national perception of the Bearcats handling UCLA? Now what is it in primetime Saturday getting curb stomped on national TV? It will hurt the inroads the CLF has been making in the state.

OSU may have one hickup game against a lesser team every 3 years. Just like at Purdue, it was a road game. If UC can't get some of these blue blood teams in PBS or Nippert, then forget them. These 1 off games against them are not worth it imho.

I think I said these games are season killers. Too many of these are program killers. Anyway i feel bad for Miami who probably gets a beat down from an angry team.

I think that game will be more competitive than we expect. UC is banged up and it is a rivalry game. UC's talent as evidenced by today isn't much above MAC talent.
