RE: SEC - Sucking against "Easy" Competition
College football is increasingly becoming have and have nots. But the separation is not really along conference lines, as some would have you believe. The separation is among the elite programs and everyone else. The gap is widening WITHIN the P5.
it's a theory, at least...

I agree with this... Ole Miss is essentially a welfare sports program created for the sole purpose of giving the real power teams someone they can reliably kick around but also validates the power 5 by pounding teams that get half the resources they do.
Resources... aka Money...

Eh.... I disagree. Yes, Ole Miss and Tennessee are down right now. But, they get all of the benefits of tagging along with the rest of the SEC and getting truckloads of cash each year to spend on their athletic programs. This allows them the benefit of throwing money around for coaches and facility upgrades. They'll keep upgrading facilities due to the cash influx and will eventually make the right hire. Ole Miss is feeling the effect of the Hugh Freeze sanctions. Tennessee just keeps tripping over themselves on coaching hires. One good coaching hire would energize that fanbase, improve recruiting, and get them competitive.
Alabama, Clemson, and Georgia are absolutely at the top of the mountain right now. Alabama might always be there, but Clemson and Georgia got there through successful coaching hires.

Good point about the hires. Look at the Florida programs. Florida, Florida State and Miami are all down. Bad hires have really affected them. It wasn't long ago that "Clemsoning" was a thing. Florida State was a great reason why Clemson wasn't the Clemson we know today. Plus ACC has had all of the great QB's (Deshawn Watson, Daniel Jones, Lamar Jackson, Trevor Lawrence, Jameius Winson) when that used to be the SEC. LSU can't find a QB. When was the last time UT had a great QB or Florida?

UT is a mess. I read through their message board after GA St pounded them and saying it was a melt down would be a massive understatement. Hopefully it will get worse before it even begins to turn around over there. A few more years of continuous suckage would be good for them. Maybe go for the lost decade thing.

Don't forget Arkinsaw too. It's just I see the top programs really separating from their conference peers more these days.
But I hear you. As I said, it's a theory.
