New Mexico State's Only Possible FBS Conference
MWC, AAC, SBC and C-USA all reject New Mexico State as football only or for all sports. They need to look at it this way. If UTRGV green lights FBS football? You got two schools and you are on the way. Have the leaders of the WAC schools to meet and talk about a strategy. Get WAC into a mega conference to make it stable. You need 8 schools to be in the same conference to form a new conference for full credit for tournaments. What you need are willing to be part of this mega conference and agree to split in 7 years.
Lamar, Incarnate Word, Sam Houston State and SFAU all talked about going FBS. You got 7 schools there. You need 1 more. Dixie State is not that far off to have an FBS stadium. I counted Grand Canyon U. as number 8 for the conference. You need to add more schools to make the split to happen. I do think Big Sky would let the two Big West schools go to make things work.
Now, the split would be WAC FBS and Great West with FCS schools.
WAC:
New Mexico State
Grand Canyon
UTRGV
Lamar
Sam Houston State
Dixie State
SFAU
Incarnate Word
Great West:
Seattle U.
Utah Valley
California Baptist
Now, if we need 5 more schools for Great West.
Simon Fraser will get football grandfathered in because of the unique circumstances with the GNAC.
UC-Davis football only
Cal. Poly football only.
Those 3 would be football only.
WAC FBS would need 4 more schools to make 12 and 5 as football only to offset Grand Canyon. Great West needs 9 to go to 12.
Chicago State would be gone.
24 team conference for 7 years would be needed.
West Texas A&M
Tarleton State
Angelo State/or Commerce
Central Oklahoma
Midwestern State
All could join WAC FBS under 7 years to build up.
Central Washington
Western Washington
Western Oregon
Azusa Pacific
Colorado Mesa
CSU-Pueblo
Chico State
East Bay State
CSU-L.A.
CSU-Dominguez Hills
Cal. Poly- Pomona
Sonoma State
Montana State-Billings are possible Great West schools.
Lets break this down a 7 year 24 team conference.
WAC West:
California Baptist
Seattle U.
Utah Valley
GCU
Dixie State
Colorado Mesa
Central Washington
Western Oregon
CSU-Pueblo
New Mexico State
CSU-L.A.
East Bay State
Simon Fraser football grandfathered in.
WAC East:
UTRGV
Lamar
Sam Houston State
SFAU
Incarnate Word
West Texas A&M
Tarleton State
Angelo State
Central Oklahoma
Midwestern State
Texas A&M-Commerce
Montana State-Billings
Southland could get Arkansas Tech, Kingsville, SW Oklahoma State, Texas Southern and either Tarleton State or Angelo State in the future.
After 7 or more years.
Great West West:
Seattle U.
California Baptist
Utah Valley
Central Washington
Western Oregon
Simon Fraser football only
Colorado Mesa
CSU-Pueblo
CSU-L.A.
CSU-Dominguez Hills
Azusa Pacific call up
Montana State-Billings
Western Washington call up
UC-Davis football only
Cal. Poly football only
This would free up Big Sky scheduling better.
Great West football:
Central Washington
Western Washington re-starts football
Azusa Pacific
Colorado Mesa
CSU-Pueblo
Simon Fraser football only
Western Oregon
UC-Davis football only
Cal. Poly football only
East Bay State restarts football
WAC FBS football:
New Mexico State
Dixie State
UTRGV
West Texas A&M
Lamar
Sam Houston State
SFAU
Incarnate Word
Tarleton State
Central Oklahoma
Midwestern State
football only school. Could North Dakota State join as a football only member? There are some former foes from D2 championship and playoffs in this group. Sam Houston State is a former FCS championship team in this group. I could see the top 5 would be North Dakota State, Sam Houston State, West Texas A&M, Tarleton State and New Nexico State in the doubledigit wins.

RE: New Mexico's Only Possible FBS Conference
Let’s try to keep realignment scenarios grounded in reality. There is no one in D2 that is anywhere near being able to catapult into FBS.
NMSU’s best bet for an FBS conference is for there to be movement that opens a G5 slot.
Plan B is to hope for more FCS move ups/start ups to create a scheduling alliance that eventually evolves into a league.

This would be 7 years in FCS before the split. That gets D2 7 years to be ready to be FBS. Only West Texas A&M already have the stadium that they play in as D2. They were a former 1A independent like New Mexico State from 1978 to 1985.They would help New Mexico State in getting the other Lone Star Texas schools to get ready.

What CSNbbs needs is a new separate DavidSt Board so mods have someplace to move threads like this instead of cluttering up the Realignment Board with absurd fantasies.

This is a response to the stupid thread about New Mexico State Hire A Realignment expert to force them into a FBS conference. You guys bitched if I posted this in that thread.

The board really doesn't get that much traffic as it is, so there isn't much of a need.
Even though most DavidSt threads are essentially fan fiction, I enjoy them.

UTRGV is about as close to NMSU as Houston is to Louisville.

RE: New Mexico's Only Possible FBS Conference
There really are not any great answers for NMSU especially for FBS.
Ideally, they could have raided the Lonestar Conference and gotten schools like West Texas A&M, Tarleton St, and Angelo St interested in the WAC and FCS football.
This would have at least stabilized everything besides FBS in the WAC Conference and given the WAC a central/west Tx core. But it just doesn't seem those schools were interested. Perhaps now after this merger with the Heartland conference some of the bigger school will be interested

The WAC should have been way more aggressive with callups beginning in 2010-2011. Yes, they got Texas State and UTSA, but probably needed 2-4 more teams in that lane.
If they get just a few more teams it's probably enough to survive and the NCAA probably would've let them trudge along with 5-6 members until they could build back up.

They needed Montana to move up. That would have gotten the moveup dominoes going in the Big Sky. They just couldnt seal that deal.

Maryland 79 Howard 0
Penn State 79 Idaho 7
I think I know a school Idaho can compete with head up.

I don't know that anyone outside the WAC commissioner's office really thought those schools should be in FBS.
Look at ticket sales, donations, ability to raise enough money to have a competitive FBS program.
Based on these statistics (from USA Today's data), why would anyone recommend that this school move to FBS?
