So, it occurs to me that probably the most effective strategy here would be for Bearcat fans to go into their closest Graeters and just ASK for the flavor. You know, like a "Rick and Morty" type thing. Just keep going into the Graeters and saying "I want my 'Boldly Bearcat.'" If they keep hearing it, they'll eventually do it.

I would argue social media would be the most effective. Get enough people with enough followers hounding the Graeters account, and things could start rolling.

Now, that in conjunction with your idea would be even more effective.

I made sure to grab a couple scoops myself. It was fantastic.

If they were trying to gauge interest, would have been a good idea to offer this at multiple events. We went to the Friday night kick-off party and no Boldly Bearcat. 18.19/5k on Sunday morning and no Boldly Bearcat.

It was actually available for students today on campus, for Students Day or something. They ran out in less than 30 minutes.

(I saw this on Twitter from the UC campus rec account. They tweeted directly at the Graeters account telling them to put it in stores.)

Not sure who this guy is but it's been retweeted by the official UC account, 45k retweets and UC gets its ice cream in stores and pints. If you have an account, go retweet, if not then make one and do it. This is absolutely doable.

If that's truly the Graeters account and not photoshop, something about it tells me they have strong intentions of releasing the flavor whether he gets 45k retweets or not.

RE: Graeters - Boldly Bearcat
I have no idea how the University handles branding but it sounds like they are extremely selective on how the logo is used. I see new college-themed products all the time on web ads and I rarely see UC included. Sometimes I have reached out to the companies and they say the university won't give permission for a license. Look, I'm all for being selective on how your branding is used but there are so many products I would GLADLY purchase if UC was on board. I just don't understand why they wouldn't try to get some more money back to the school and continue to expand their brand. It's extremely disappointing.

Agreed 100%... I'm so dang tired of seeing OSU and UK logos slapped on anything and everything, while UC's branding department thumbs their noses at anything they don't deem "worthy."

I should be able to walk down every aisle in every Kroger, Walmart, and Target in Cincinnati and see something with a C-paw on it. Every strip of fast food joints should have some place with a UC-themed promotion... official sponsorship, promotional UC cups with the football schedule, "win tickets to a UC football game!", etc. I don't care if the product is crap, slap a C-paw on everything we can. We need to dominate every aspect of every market in Cincinnati. If you're going somewhere in Cincinnati, you should see C-paws everywhere along the way, and plenty more once you get there.

UC licensing runs through IMG. The decisions regarding what products to accept and more importantly setting the licensing fee are under IMG's control. It's a tradeoff between having 100% in-house control versus leveraging the power of a large organization.

If Bob's brewing approaches UC to brew a Bearcat Stout the cost discussions would be through IMG. If UC was 100% against a beer then it wouldn't happen. If IMG tells Bob the UC license will cost $250k/year for a beer that's the price. UC can't argue Bob is a great guy and a UC fan so we'll do it for $15k/year. Licensing is a comodity and all the various product licensing costs are interrelated.

The OSU and UK logos are on everything because they sell a lot of branded crap. More products = more sales but it is a diminshing return and the curve rolls over quickly for a school like UC. There is a reason you can find the OSU logo on every product under the sun - people buy the stuff in mass quantities.

I appreciate the explanation. However it still irks me when I see products and schools like North Dakota State and ECU are available as options but UC is not. Just seems like a major hindrance to building your brand, both locally and nationally.

There's all kinds of UC stuff on Fanatics and other sites.

Relating to UC marketing themselves more across the tri-state and doing more to promote their brand, I came across this article:

https://www.wlwt.com/article/remember-th...r/23877176

Similar to the flying pig statues from 2000-2012, UC is looking for artists to decorate life-size statues of the Bearcat and they'll be placed around campus and greater Cincinnati. They should be up between April and September of 2019.

It's been done in lots of cities before with different animals or inanimate objects. It creates impressions and extends the Bearcat brand so I'm all for this. Guessing Norwood U. will want to play "me too" once they see these all over the metro?

Related, I believe the new 5th/3rd Arena will be the talk of the town all season when it comes to sports. It's going to be an incredible venue from everything we're seeing. Let's hope it becomes the toughest ticket in town if the 'Cats get off to a quick start.

This effort is probably tied into the UC bicentennial. Fun idea. Hope a lot of business and organization sponsor artists to design their Bearcats.

So Graeters, after releasing a Buckeye themed pint this week (game week), they have now said that with a UC win Saturday, they'll finally "pint" the boldly bearcat flavor. This after last year asking for 40,000 retweets of a certain tweet to "pint" it then.

A Cincinnati based company making the hometown fans jump through hoops to get support for the local university.

I know I'm switching to UDF.

I've never liked graeters. Never seen the attraction to bland, sugary ice cream. I'm convinced most people say they like it because Orca, I mean, Oprah does.

They deleted that tweet when like 90% of the responses were incredibly negative 03-lmfao

1. No other ice cream I've had has the chocolate chunks Graeter's has.
2. Toffee chip. Best toffee/chocolate ice cream ever.
3 UDF ice cream has a fraction of the creaminess that Graeter's has.
4. Graeter's has been around decades before Oprah
5. Getting a chocolate covered cone at Graeter's is a much more pleasant experience than waiting for a cone from slow, distracted employees at any UDF.

I love me some Graeter's salted caramel chip but someone needs to remind Graeter's which city they are from and it ain't Columbus.
