Let the one bounce over his head on the short hop, and he called for the fair catch a couple times when I didn't think it was necessary. Easy for me to say I know. But sure hands is the most important attribute and that's not a problem.
Maybe a little bit defensive, but just because something turns out bad doesn't mean it was the wrong decision. I don't think the one that went over his head was on a short hop----he stopped from trying to catch the ball low and intended to play it on a normal hop---the fact that it ended up being a big hop and rolled another 30 yards certainly made it look bad (and it was).
I barely remember him returning two punts the entire year last year so two returns was good. He definitely has sure hands and punt games now are geared for the fair catch.
He did play a solid game at receiver with a few short to medium gains.

Childers has thrown for 299+ yards once in his career, last years MAC Championship.
Childers threw for 325 yards COMBINED in the first THREE games last year.
It's a good thing no one I know was Tweeting saying "might be Childers time". I also would hate to know someone who was vocally calling for Childers in the Fatty's Club.
Glad that wasn't happening!
I’m sure Childers knew the minute he watched film from Bowers at Cal he was riding pine. The talent is night and day. Over the last couple seasons it’s been horrible to watch the QB position at NIU. Nice to finally have a good one and I’ll go out on a limb and say he will be up there (or surpass) this year in the NIU record book for passing yards in a season
Agreed. The record for most passing yards in a season is 3,216 - Harnish in 2011. If he stays healthy Bowers has the skills to break that record this year or next; hopefully both!
I also think that as the season progresses we will see the huge effect Bowers will have on the rushing game due to defenses having to defend the whole field.

Some guy was screaming for Childers right behind and next to us at the ISU game. He also had a "friend" who was the most obnoxious ISU fan.

Are you sure the guy screaming for Childers wasn't an ISU fan?

I would like to think the new/improved Childers would’ve beaten this ISU team... I don’t think last year’s Childers would have.
