Jack played pretty good vs. Alcorn (Analysis of every one of Jack's throws)
I just rewatched the game.

Keep in mind we played with a very vanilla offensive playbook AND we still don't have Quez Watkins in the lineup AND our starting RB went down in the very first offensive possession. Jack only made one or two "bad" throws but he was pretty much under pretty a good bit of the night (what else is new). Here's a breakdown of every one of Jack's throws (incompletions are in bold):

FIRST QUARTER
1st offensive possession of game
-Quick pass to the right flat to Tim Jones for a few yards
-Quick pass to the left flat to Jaylond Adams for a few yards but called back for holding
-Quick pass to the left flat to a motioning Moseley
-12 yard strike to Tim Jones
-Play-action throw to Moseley for a good catch/run (Moseley gets hurt on this play)
-A strike to the WR who gets hit immediately and drops the ball. All WR's were covered pretty well on this play. Also, JA gets smashed to the ground on a late-hit by the defensive player and goes out for a few plays. All rhythm we had up until this play went down the drain. Whatley came in for a few plays and did nothing.
-3rd and goal from the 5 and JA is pressured in his face from the snap by the dlineman and throws into the back of the endzone
***WE HAD ONE OFFENSIVE POSSESSION IN THE ENTIRE 1ST QUARTER**

SECOND QUARTER
2nd offensive possession of the game
-2 runs for nothing and then on 3rd down Clopton snapped the ball early thinking he'd get the defensive encroachment call but he didn't. JA wasn't expecting the snap and has to fall on top of the ball.
3rd offensive possession of the game
-Starting at our our 3 yard line, we run the ball 3 consecutive times for nothing. Zero pass attemps.
Fourth offensive possession
-JA (while under pressure) throws an INT. Ball was barely tipped by a LB who dropped back into coverage at the last second. Had JA put a little bit more air under it it would've been a great throw and 1st down.
5th offensive possession
-Quick throw strike to slot receiver Tim Jones for about 20 yards YAC
-Stands in the pocket and throws a good ball to the crossing route receiver Mitchell who catches and runs about 30 yards then stumbles and fumbles the ball. Turnover.
6th offensive possession
-Quick throw to the right flat for a little gain
-Very nice 30 yard sideline throw on 3rd and long to Mitchell for a 1st down
-Another very nice 10-15 yard throw to Mitchell who gets another 30 YAC
-Under pressure, he's forced to throw the ball out of the back of the endzine (about :20 left before halftime)
-Shovel pass to Adams for little gain (terrible play call IMO)
-:06 left in 1st half and JA throws to the corner of the endzone, McClaurin catches it but can't land in bounds.

2ND HALF
7th offensive possession
-Quick slant to slot WR Mitchell for a few YAC
-Quick WR throw that is DROPPED
-NICE 25 yard strike to Mitchell in the middle of the field for 1st down
-Quick inside slant DROPPED by Tim Jones. If he doesn't drop this ball, he's gone to the house for a TD
-55 yard TD throw to McClaurin (DB and WR feet got tangled up and DB fell down)
8th offensive possession
-JA pressured out of the pocket and overthrows Trevor Terry. Slightly under pressure but a bad pass.
-Strong throw to Jaylond Adams for 12-ish yards.
-Under heavy pressure JA throws behind Jaylond Adams
-Quick shovel pass to Tim Jones
-Perfect throw to Jaylond Adams about 10 yards down the field on the sideline and the ball goes RIGHT THROUGH Adams' hands.
-A strike to Tim Jones on a crossing route for 15-20 YAC
-A solid quick out throw but is called back for WR holding
-JA runs 15 yards for a TD
9th offensive possession
-On 3rd down, a good throw that is in and out of the hands of Trevor Terry. This would've been a TD but they settle for a FG. This is Jack's last outing of the game.

I mean, I don't think JA is a world beater by any stretch but he didn't play bad at all.

3 drops, 2 passes right through the hands of the receivers, 3 passes out of the back of the endzone because dlinemen are in his face, the game is on ESPN's website, I can literally provide you w/ the timestamps for all his incompletions and you tell me if those are his fault or the WR's...I mean his only real bad pass of the night was the tipped INT. I don't get the hate. He's not the one calling the plays. Again, no Quez, no Moseley, first game, a vanilla playbook etc.

You're right, there were plenty of drops. Hes generally accurate within 15 yards. But so am I. If i were throwing against real D1 talent, every ball i throw passed 15 yards will be picked or incomplete, unless the defender falls down.....and thats what happens to Jack too. Bc we both have weak ass weenie arms.

Jack has a pretty good arm...when he doesn't have a defender in his face he's proven (like tonight and many times last year) that he can make good throws downfield. Our problem is run-game...gotta run the ball better and everything else opens up. If we have no run threat then it's so much easier to defend the pass game. It's that simple. I think we're going to come out and punch state in the mouth.

Abraham is plenty adequate. He's the best QB on our team currently by far. Maybe some have been spoiled by or last few QBs being NFL quality. The entire problem is the offensive line and lack of run game. If you can't see that you're blind. Everyone knows we can't run the ball. We are about to find out if this oc is any better than Dawson.

Reggie just really isn’t an Abraham fan and enjoys any chance he can get to talk down about him, even if he did fine. He’d probably argue the playcalling is so bad because that’s all Jack can handle, no matter how untrue it is. It’s best to ignore him.

On the all Yellow, the school wanted everyone to Gold Out, so the team Golded Out. Unfortunately, it seems most fans can’t understand to wear certain colors.

I’m tellin ya, I’ve seen so many comments this week, whether about having to walk ten minutes to the stadium or other random garbage, and all I can think is how so many in our fan base treat it like a high school game. Super casual, barely into it, woe is me if I can’t arrive 30 minutes prior to kickoff and get a park at the door.

Regarding attendance. You will see football attendance decrease going forward as the most recent and current college students don't care about college athletics and current attendees are dying off. I saw the MSU and ULL attendance was 22k in the Superdome. That is pitiful for those two schools. ULL had that many alone at a bowl game there. You would think State would have had that many.

Oh shut up. Im actually watching the game again and the reason some of you think JA is great or even adequate, is bc you do not understand football like you think and probably never played at any level. Here is a little something for you to think about regarding his weak arm. Its is a liability and huge issue and effects the passing game (and thereby running game) in a major way. I do not understand what it is that you guys do not understand about that.

Prime example(s); He tosses a slow ball to our WR and the WR is having to wait...wait...wait for it to get to him and then he gets his ass knocked off right as the ball is getting there and you get an incomplete pass or a catch with no gain bc he has no chance to tuck it and run. If the ball is zinged in there, he catches, tucks it and makes the play and possibly runs up field bc he has time to make a move (ASU's QB is better at that than JA). At the same time, it gives the DB a chance to make a play on the ball. THAT is why all these passes are so damn short and behind the line or 2-5 yard passes for the most part. The coaches realize what a liability he is on the downfield passing game. He will get our WRs asses knocked off unnecessarily.

Please, instead of saying i have a problem with JA, please address the concern I just raised. No one has EVER addressed the actual issues I raise with Jacks arm strength. They just cry and say I hate him and pretend that his weak ass arm isnt a problem. So please....tell me why his arm strength is NOT a huge problem, or STFU.

Abraham was creamed on this play, but he had a WR wide open running across the end zone that he missed completely. The pressure may have been the reason.

Jack threw this ball to the wrong WR. He had a WR breaking open deep across the middle that would have been an easy TD with a somewhat decent pass.

A couple of thoughts on 2 incompletions above under the initial remarks...

That said, I'm an Abraham fan, and think he is the best QB on the team, but I know those are 2 throws that he would like to have back once he saw them on film.

fair enough...

the Peter Principle is a theorem of one being 'promoted' to inadequacy...that's easily Hop-a-long in any chapter of Twain....

the exes are simple in scope...

the exec$ are also simple in Peter...
