How will the new coach fix it.
The Oline ussually is very dependable.
What happenned.
Can it be fixed?
This will be a key test for the new coach.
Keeping the QB healthy should be the main priority.
If we cannot fix the Oline, then bench Bowers.
He is too good to lose against Utah.
There are very few coaches that would bench the QB because the opponent is too good. May as well raise a white flag before the game and the whole team would see that. How about we be Huskies and compete.
Anyone, anyplace we'll play!
Exactly. That is not something Hammock would consider!
Normally I'd agree with this, but this is SUCH a mismatch on paper with Utah D vs NIU O that I think one has to consider protecting players. NiU has not been overmatched on the line like this since I cannot remember when
I can remember when. Last year against Utah.

NIU had a great offensive line, well maybe not great but solid

I'm excited for this kid's development. If he can get physically ready, in terms of body frame and arm strength. He can be pretty good.
Sidenote. I'm pretty sure I'm addicted to Huskies football.

Ah come on now. That's a stretch. You saw the same game I did. It's just a bad matchup. Bowers could be a great QB with help around him. I just want to see him upright for as long as possible

Ok stop.....they are playing a ranked Utah team, not the 1985 Chicago Bears defense. What kind of coach would bench their Best QB because he might get hurt?? Guess what? He can get hurt any game. NIU are not a bunch of sissies.

Projecting fear is the worst thing to do. Look at the ranked teams we've played...FSU, Ohio State....no injuries. We lost a couple of linemen against ISucks, an FCS team.
We're an FBS team. Not saying we'll beat Utah, most likely not, but NIU can hang with anybody, for awhile, anyway.
You make it sound like the Utah team is make up of Terminators.

I dont think Bowers should be benched for this game, I just am really concerned about the mismatch in the trenches.

I concur. It's just not the NIU way. We don't back down from anyone. No matter who lines up from us, we will give you a hard fought victory.
We took Florida State 3 quarters of frustrating football. And those dudes had something like 20 drafted players on that team to our handful of future NFLers. We almost gave Ohio State a heart attack, and that team was good! Little Shawun Lurry gave those dudes PROBLEMS!
So just because there's a size, speed or skill mismatch. We should never back down. It's just not our way. I get the whole, save your chips now to win down the road. But it just isn't us.

We can win a million MAC championships, but if we want to get to the next level we have to compete and beat teams like this. Play the game and anything can happen. Our offense will only get better with time.

One thing I was really glad to see was Tears go over to Ritchie on the 68 yard play and congratulate him. Tears did not have a huge impact but glad to see him taking the right approach. His big game is coming soon. The way he was acting I wonder if he lost that one ball on that open play in the lights.

Who was the receiver that missed that catch? That throw was on the money but no doubt it was a tough catch.

Tears. We've seen him do this many times. But at the same time, he can make tough snags and be super explosive.

You would actually tell Childers, "I need you to go in and take some concussions, bruised ribs and other injuries for Bowers because he's our shiny new California import, I want to keep HIM healthy and you can do other things after football."?

That is how the Dolphins beat Da Bears in 1986. I think this will be the game plan that we see next Sat. against Utah.

Looked like a perfectly thrown ball to me. Tears has shown the ability to make circus catches on occasion but unless he can become more consistent he will never be a "Go To" guy.

I'm guessing he was celebrating early thinking he had a TD and lost focus. It was a great pass and he had a few steps on the defender. I saw it from the stands, so maybe I'm wrong about the accuracy of the pass.

The pass was perfect. Tears has been known to drop the easy ones and make th tough catches. This is why he’s a good receiver and not a great one. Prove me wrong. Usually drops like that kill momentum. And FYI Utah is good at defense. So are we. They suck on offense, and we’re better on offense than we were last year. Remember that if we could complete passes last year we would have won. Utah is overrated and beatable. We have footage and experience playing them. They’re not Bama or even close. Relax you negative Nancy’s.....
