RE: 2019 Football Season
Not only do we schedule Power 5 teams they are "top" of their conference teams.
2021-Jimbo Fisher Coached Texas A&M and Iowa
2022-Only one game scheduled right now the opener at Georgia (why?)

RE: 2019 Football Season
Arizona State isn't really a powerhouse school. Last two years they went 7-5 and the year before that 6-6. Wisconsin went 7-5 last year and so did Auburn. While all 3 might be improved from last year it's not like the schedule is against Alabama, Clemson and Michigan. Its still an uphill battle to win those games but they have at least a chance.

You always have a chance to win earlier posts were pointing out how the non conference schedule is against top tier teams. Seeing how you citied Arizona State 6-6 record in 2017 let's examine our other non conference opponents.
Auburn 10-4 final ranking 10th
Wisconsin 13-1 final ranking 7th (Wisconsin has won more games in the last decade than Michigan)

Interesting to see Keshunn Abram is the #3 outside receiver. Must've really impressed in camp to find a role in a pretty crowded WR rotation. Hopefully this isn't a sign that McFadden isn't progressing like they hope. With his size I love his potential.
Also really interesting to see Xavier Williams being the second back getting talked about. I wonder if he's truly beating out the other guys or just provides the best change of pace from Shaw?

Agree story confirmed what as been speculated on this board. AD says these money games are necessary "until external revenue increases".
Do you think may be if the football started to win attendance and donations would increase.
Thought it was very telling when talking about program goals did NOT mention going to a bowl game.

Also thought it is pretty ironic that the photo of Nick Saben is included in the article.

In my uninformed opinion, JN doesn't want to go to a bowl game. Bowl games, although great for players and fans, end up costing the institution money. He answers to the dollar, not the fans and players, hence his priority is to line up million-dollar a$$-beatings.

RE: 2019 Football Season
I hate this scheduling. Only five home games, one on a Thursday night in mid-November.. One against an FCS program. Three road "money games". I'm sure they need the money. I remember back in the 1980's, I think, when there were only 11 games but you were allowed a 12th game at home if you travelled to Hawaii. Well, KSU declined the 12th game and the reason given was that they LOST money every home game! Heck, why not just go whole hog and play FOUR "money games" and drop the home game against the FCS school. That would really fill their coffers and they could tell potential recruits about the 4 big-time places they will play at. Sure, that would really eliminate any chance of a bowl game, unless they win the MAC. But low-level bowl games would also be a money drain, anyway.

And that FCS team is no joke, they’re top 10 and while we should still win it won’t be a guaranteed W.

IF football wins they cannot sustain it consecutively and that will not get fans out to games. A one year wonder does nothing. Well a one year wonder allows the coach to leave and then we start again

Justin Agner just came into the game for FAU at OSU. Didn't realize he was still playing. Remember he was the true freshman QB that won the starting job for the opener a few years ago, got hurt in the first half at Penn State, then left. Another one of the money game casualties.

Also surprised to see him get in. He got hurt in the game at State Penn and was then gone. He went the JUCO route and barely played before walking on at FAU.

My name is Ian Kreider, and I report on the Kent State football team for the Kent Stater. I'm starting a mailbag so if you have any questions related to the team reply to this comment or email me at ikreider@kent.edu. This will be a weekly article and finished before each game. I'll post a link to the article in the thread each week after it's finished.

I’ve taught Ian in several classes and vouch for him as an excellent student sports writer.
He wrote the feature story on Booman Williams and his son right before that MAC tournament last season. It was as good a piece as anyone wrote about the men’s team last season.

RE: 2019 Football Season
Last week article in the news paper the AD gave very detailed numbers concerning revenue generated by football and how this projects into the general fund.
My question -It appears there are targeted fund raising goals for the " 5 year plan". If you are the AD easiest path to meet revenue goals is to schedule big money games with minimal chance of winning. Thinking in private industry there are financial bonuses if one meets their goals. Wonder does the AD receive a "bonus" for booking these money games and meeting goals?
I am not concern if the day comes when Kent State starts winning have to worry about our Head Coach leaving. Follow the Toledo example select someone already on staff and winning will continue.
