Imagine the biggest network in North Carolina not showing UNC bbasketball. This is very bad for FSU football in the state of Florida while everyone can watch UF.
I thought Charter/Spectrum was the largest cable network provider in NC. Either way, the ACCN being carried in the state of NC is the last thing we should worry about regarding distribution of the ACCN. It will be shown there.
Spectrum is the largest cable operator in NC. I think that the point being made was that the largest cable operator in FL is Comcast and not having Comcast carrying ACCN would be a very big deal to FSU (and Miami) fans in FL; that they would be as unhappy as fans of the NC schools would be if Spectrum weren't going to carry ACCN.
If Comcast is that big in FL, Comcast has a hell of a lot to lose if they don't get on the ACCN bus. At least, I hope they see it that way.
Ah, I understand. Thank you for clarifying. It seems to me that it depends on FSU and the U fans to help get Comcast to bend. If FSU is the biggest tv brand in the ACC as claimed, flex your muscle, like UF.
Comcast is already hemorrhaging subscribers. I think Comcast is also big in Northern Virginia (think UVA). In fact, that FSU @ UVA game may be the tipping point.
Keep in mind also that ESPN has announced an ACCN All-ACC "watch party" for the Miami/Florida game this Saturday night on the ACC Network -- so Canes fans may not miss the game itself, but they'll miss a lot of pro-Miami TV if they don't have ACCN by then... and of course their game @ UNC on ACCN looms as well.
Yep, I'm actually more confident in Comcast coming on than I have been, knowing they are up in just three years.
In light of that, you see Swofford and ACC folks and ESPN folks have mentioned over an over again that it's up to a three year ramp up. Three years to full carriage. It's all over these media pieces.
And that corresponds exactly to Comcast's contract. So essentially, from day one, they've been signalling to Comcast that they'll absolutely wait them out, because they know, we know, everyone knows it's going to be on Comcast in 2022.
So basically, Comcast is looking at 2-3 more years of slight savings in not carrying it. Which makes sense, if you don't think you're losing significant customers. But the cost of re-acquiring people is ridiculous...signing someone up costs tons in marketing, discounts, installation.
It's especially dangerous to Comcast, because most of those people would be breaking their cherry for streaming services, after resisting for several years now. Whether fear or inertia or not wanting to buy devices, for whatever reason people still with Comcast have been resistant to dumping for streaming services...and nearly everyone who drops them for the ACCN is going to be going to a brave new world.
That's not good for Comcast. That's not the same as dumping Comcast for a different cable company. People that go from Comcast to YTTV or Hulu may very well never be recoverable.
What's three years early compared to that? I'm thinking Comcast caves once the cancellations start rolling in, as long as they do. I suspect that it may be between launch and the Clemson game, or even between the Clemson game and the FSU game. There just isn't all that great reason to hold out I don't think.
If the cancellations don't materialize, then they hold.
