DirectTV Now is from me cutting the cord.

Also, not the same as DirectTV.

I might try something else, but I don't think so at this point. I have an amazing deal would be adding a lot of money to go to another carrier. I am just gonna hope the ACC isn't done adding carriers.

Youtube TV has most the channels that football fans need. Check it out.

Sucks.

It's my understanding AT&T plans to phase that out anyway, so I'm not surprised. Does it cost anything to switch? How does PS Vue or YouTube TV or Hulu Live compare? I have Spectrum, but if they hadn't reached a contract in time I was planning to go with PS Vue, though lately I've heard good things about YouTube TV.

OTOH, you could get a satellite dish and go with DirecTV itself...

AT&T seems to be all over the place right now, rebranding DirecTV Now as AT&T TV Now, launching a new OTT service called simply AT&T TV, and an existing sports-free OTT service called AT&T Watch TV. Pretty unclear where they want to end up, but the branding is confusing as hell. (Their SVOD strategy is also confusing as hell, with the planned launch of HBO Max on top of HBO Now).

That said, assuming AT&T TV Now signs ACCN, it will undoubtedly place it on its $70/mo Max tier, where it also places the more specialized sports channels like BTN, SECN, ESPNU, ESPNews, Golf, CBSSN and FS2. The tier also includes Cinemax.

Depending where you live because of local OTA and RSN contracts, any of Youtube TV, Hulu Live or PS Vue are all a better deal for sports fans at $50+/- per month unless you really value Cinemax.

RE: ACC Network
Even if your carrier doesn’t carry ACCN on opening night, you’ll be able to watch it on other ESPN channels for 10 minutes. Don’t think that will help much.

That will vary from city to city. Spectrum hasn’t announced the channel in Raleigh. It’s getting to be time. I want to set my DVR.

Channel 1062

The Duke Basketball Report is trying to collect the channel lineups for ACCN. So far all they’ve collected is North State. Let’s hope the list grows very rapidly.

RE: ACC Network
Lots of ACCN news this morning.

Spectrum will have ACCN on channel 388 in Winston-Salem. That doesn't tell you what channel it will be on where you are, unless you're in Winston-Salem. However, if they've figured it out there, it probably won't be long before they have it figured out where we are.

Verizon FiOS will have it on 329 (SD) & 829 (HD).

The State has a long article on ACCN.

Frontier is the first carrier to say that they won't carry ACCN. They object to having to include ACCN on their most popular packages.

Unfortunate that Frontier won't be carrying it at this time. But this should be music to everyone's ears:

ACC Network is quite expensive.

Unfortunately, in order to get the biggest audience possible, ESPN/ACC Network would require that Frontier include their network in our most popular packages.

This is pretty encouraging to me. I think the smart fear was not "what if they can't get the ACC network picked up", the fear was "How much will they really be able to charge for it?"

This is basically confirmation that they aren't just giving it away. A lot of the predictions that the ACC would be lucky to get half the rate the SECN gets...well I'm not so sure that is going to be true, and that's great news.

It's not going to be about what the ACCN is "worth" relative to the SEC, it's always been about how much ESPN could force the carriers to take. I'm glad to hear it's expensive.

Now...Comcast is still a very big dog here. I'm not terribly worried about Dish, about them not carrying it, or what if they don't (and rumors are they will anyway). There certainly aren't any good rumors or leaks coming out about Comcast. I'm guessing they're betting people don't really cancel, so we'll just have to cross our fingers that cancellations come in enough volume to push them over.

There are enough carriers now that the ACC Network isn't dead on arrival. It can weather a year or two without Comcast if it comes to it. But I don't know long term if the ACCN thrives without Comcast, Comcast eventually could become what DirectTV is to the PAC, the albatross around it's neck.

I don't think it will come to that, Disney has a lot of tools in it's toolbox to eventually get Comcast on board, but I'm starting to doubt we see the ACCN on Comcast this year.

I like the $25 sweet spot and I would rather add the $5 extra, and have the option to drop it part of the year, than for Sling to head down the road of adding other channels that I don't care about and raising the base rate. YoutubeTV went from like $35 to $50 adding channels I don't care about. Would rather go with Sling Orange + Sports add on for $30 than have them go down that route.

The Sling Orange sports addon is now $10

Well, I think I'm just going to switch back to HuluTV then. That puts Orange+Sports at $35. For $9 more you get a lot more channels (the Fox stations you don't get on Orange), all the sports channels, a half ass DVR, and a phenomenal VOD library. That's worth the extra for me.

The interface pretty much sucks, but I had Hulu last football season, and they've pretty much got all the football games on every conceivable sports station. I can't remember not having access to a game really, including things on like CBS Sports network and that kind of thing.

But isnt the real question, concerning any of these networks that are currently refusing the ACCN, how long can their product be viable without all of the Disney owned channels??? I thought I read in another article that quoted an ACC official as saying eventually when the contracts to renew the other Disney owned channels come-up, they will bundle the ACCN with those other channels.

Most definitely. The issue is that Comcast and Disney are signed for years...they're one of the ones that isn't up soon. Not sure about Dish. I think UVerse is up by the end of the year, and should be added.

The thing is, I'm not sure whether Disney has been able to force the network on any non-streaming carrier that they didn't have a renewal deal on. I could be wrong, but I think that's the case, but I could be wrong about DirectTV. That was always the plan, and why the long ramp up.

I'm not sure they've been able to crack any of these carriers that are in mid term, and not sure how long it will take.

It looks like part of the Spectrum deal involved some kind of arrangement around Disney+ and the Disney+/Hulu/ESPN+ package that's coming. I don't know the details, but I think that's about Spectrum being able to offer that directly to customers on their bills, probably with a cut, and on their boxes.

If that streaming service is successful and popular, and there seams to be some early enthusiasm for it, that might be the next leverage point with these other carriers that aren't up for renewal anytime soon. Comcast may want to be able to offer that direct to its customers and through it's boxes, and if it does that might provide some impetus for an agreement. But that probably wouldn't be a factor before the end of the year.

If Comcast (and Dish) do hold out, it could be for a long time. We'll see. Cancellations could end up being more than they plan on, and then I'm also sure that ESPN has other concessions they can make. I don't think they can really lower the price, but there are always things they can do with their other properties, like allowing say, ABC Family to be moved to a less popular tier or whatever.

When does Frontier's contract with Disney come up for renewal? For that matter, how big in Frontier?

One thing I feel safe in saying is that the advantage that the ACC has in comparison to the PAC is that the ACC is located in a region of the country where college sports is a major family affair with a passion for the college sports. When growing-up in San Jose, California, my friends and I only ever cared about the professional sports (Football, Basketball and Baseball) teams and whatever chance college sports had to add to their following died when the Sharks came to San Jose and started to draw casual fan attention to yet another professional sport. That doesn't bode well for the PAC since California has the largest population by far in that region of the country.
