Caldwell-Pope would probably be the most likely option to trade away. They've got plenty of depth at the SG spot with Danny Green, Avery Bradley and Troy Daniels as their other options.

If they went the vet minimum option, I can't imagine they'd find someone that is a better option than Cacok at this stage in the offseason. The best big men available at the moment are Nene, Kenneth Faried, Greg Monroe, Amir Johnson, Zaza Pachulia, Joakim Noah and Dwight Howard. There's also a possibility they bring in a non-big like Andre Iguodala or Carmelo Anthony.

They may just simply opt to stand pat with what they have. Losing Cousins doesn't really diminish their chances at winning a title all that much. A healthy LeBron and Anthony Davis are still 2 of the top 5 players on the planet. They're still probably the 1a/1b best bet this year.

The Lakers, under the NBA rules, will probably be able to recover $1.65M of Cousin's contract.

If doctors say he will not be able to play before June of next year, the Lakers can apply for a Disabled Player Exception. They can recover up to half his salary. Which would be $1.65-$1.75M.

I'm not buying it, as we still have to see how they can play together. It will be interesting to see what happens with the Clippers and the Rockets as well.

More Good Things for Cacok
Lakers among the teams the Grizzlies granted Dwight Howard to meet with.

I told you the Lakers would at least explore filling the Cousins hole.

IMO, DC has a great chance of making a roster, but it’s probably next year. They’re going to want to develop him in the D league more.

Dwight Howard will spend more of the season on the injured list than the active roster. Cacok's services will be needed regardless of why they sign.

Sure, of course as he's old and his prime is well behind him. I agree there. However, my original post following the announcement of the Cousins injury is that the Lakers would attempt to fill the vacancy via FA or trade. The season hasn't started yet and there's still plenty of time for that.

Cacok absolutely has services to offer and the Lakers' current roster is a near perfect storm for an undersized talent like him to perform. However, I still think it's more than likely next year rather than this year for him. I'd love to be wrong on that though.

Things are looking good for DC. Hope the Lakers give him a shot at earning that spot rather than just handing it to some washed up vet. All he needs is a chance.

Well, the Lakers signed Howard....and waived rookie Aric Holman. So Cacock is still on the 20 man roster heading into training camp.

Los Angeles Lakers roster for 2019-2020:

Guards:
Rajon Rondo
Avery Bradley
Quinn Cook
Troy Daniels
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
Alex Caruso
Demetrius Jackson
Zach Norvell
Talen Horton-Tucker

Forwards:
Jared Dudley
LeBron James
Kyle Kuzma
Devontae Cacok
Kostas Antetokounmpo
Danny Green
Jordan Caroline

Centers:
Dwight Howard
Javale McGee
DeMarcus Cousins
Anthony Davis

Coach: Frank Vogel

Lakers reportedly waive Aric Holman to make room for Dwight Howard

Howard officially signs with Lakers

RE: More Good Things for Cacok
I believe the Dwight deal is non-guaranteed. So if he doesn't prove he deserves a roster spot, the Lakers will be sure to cut him.

As for Cacok and his Exhibit 10 deal, I didn't realize that these deals allow a player to be picked up by an NBA team if they end up in the G League. For example, let's say Cacok gets cut in training camp and reports to the South Bay Lakers. All other 29 teams could then give Cacok an NBA deal if they wanted. Only thing is if he signs a 10 day contract with another team and they don't keep him after that he must report back to South Bay. Pretty good deal for Cacok, if you ask me.

I was unaware of that as well. It sounds like a great deal for Cacok. Additionally, it gives the Lakers incentive to keep him on their currently watered down roster vs risk losing him to another team.

Will be interesting to see this play out.

Nothing yet. I imagine once training camp starts and/or winds down the news on this front will pick up.

Devontae is still listed as the # 3 PF on the Laker depth chart, behind Anthony Davis and Jared Dudley.

Obviously things are clouded a bit by LeBron's presence, as he's capable of playing any position. When Rondo is at PG, LeBron will operate as a Forward. But still, Cacok is in a very good spot with chances for upward mobility. Especially when you consider the extensive injury histories of Cousins, Davis, and Dwight Howard as well as Dudley's age (34).

I doubt Cousins plays this season, tore his ACL in August.

Looks like Cacok should see some PT in the preseason opener

Anthony Davis and LeBron James expected to play in Lakers preseason opener, Jared Dudley to sit out

With Dudley out until at least Saturday, expect Devontae Cacok and Kostas Antetokounmpo to backup Davis at the power forward position.

Forgive my ignorance on the workings of NBA contracts, but would getting preseason playing time mean anything good for Cacok? Monetarily or otherwise?

I dont think it affects his money. But the question for him seems to be will he make the Lakers, or play on their G league team.....and his contract seems to have incentives for being called up to the big team for a stretch. So the chance to show what he can do playing with and against established NBA players now is a great opportunity to help him....he gets a chance to show what he can do.

If I remember right, he needs to play a minimum of 10 games with the big boys to get the bonus money.
