Buc fans thoughts on Wednesday games?
As you should have noticed SoCon conference games are going to usually be Wednesday Saturday vs Thursday Saturday as in the past.

On Moc Nation we are running a poll. 40% are saying they will be going to fewer games because of this, 60% the same number and 0% more games.

Common reason for fewer is church on Wednesday night.

What say you Bucco fans?

RE: Buc fans thoughts on Wednesday games?
For me it is more a function of teaching night classes. I suspect I will attend the same number of games.

Could those in you potential respondent pool already be attending all the games they can and thus not really able to answer "more games" because it is a moot point?

I go to all the games and thus the change won't make a difference for me, but I certainly prefer Wednesday. Now, if we had moved to Sunday games, I would have made it to far fewer games.

For most folks, I'd guess it's a matter of individual conflicts. I have a Thursday night jam session that was hard to miss, so Wednesday is easier for me. My son, Running_fool15, hosts a Wednesday night Trivia Game that would be hard for him to miss.

As an out of state season ticket holder this will cut the games in half that we will attend. The current posted SoCon team league schedules show for the most part that if you have a home game on Wednesday then you have an away game on Saturday. Not worth traveling 250 miles for one game a week.

RE: Buc fans thoughts on Wednesday games?
As a local fan, I don't know that Wednesday-Saturday will affect my attendance. My alma mater, Purdue, is in the Big Ten, which I think is still mostly Thursday-Saturday, so I will have a couple fewer conflicts throughout the conference season.

I could see that church conflicts could negatively impact attendance. If I was teaching a Wednesday night class or working in a children's program at church, I personally wouldn't dump my church commitment to attend a game. Outside of church conflicts, I'd say it would be hit or miss with other fans.

And I have to agree that attending more games would be tough to do, especially if your polling population is a fan message board - they're probably already attending as many games as they could.

I'm guessing your message board results will probably be similar to the same poll on the other SoCon boards.

They’ll watch attendance closely and if it drops overall this year, I’ll bet they switch it back next year. Schools can’t afford to lose even a few hundred fans at this level.

I also decry the apparent lack of concern for "the church crowd". I doubt many here will be affected, but I will be, and I know several others who also will. Not a good look.

I'm sure the move to Wednesday is to possibly get some television exposure. Personally, I don't care what days of the week the games are. I'll be at all of them.

I'm curious. Where does the Church of the Sadducees meet?

(I kid. I kid.)

Hmmm...... Sorry, I'm missing the quip. Not offended in any way; just missing it.

I too will go to all the games regardless of when they are played. I think the move was made also for the coaches to have more prep time and the players to have more rest between games.

I have a slight preference for Thursday over Wednesday but no big deal. I am out of the area so generally can only attend weekend games anyway.

I actually preferred the old Saturday/Monday model. Not that many games on Monday and we got a little more ESPN attention.

I figure it's on the joke teller to make himself understood, so mea culpa.

I was just wondering how you determined that few people here are part of the "church crowd." The Sadducees reference was in that vein.

Ok..........so it was more generic than I would have guessed. And of course I can't know specifically which "few"(?) on this board (other than about 3 I know personally) that may apply to. BUT...........I personally know many (like dozens) regular church goers who attend most games in person. I'm sure some (but couldn't guess a percentage of those (maybe between 20-40%??)) will be affected by this. I could name *easily* a dozen just off the top of my head that will have that choice to make.

When I wrote "Not a good look", I was suggesting that the SoCon didn't take this factor into account, even here in the Bible Belt. If they did, and chose to go forward anyway, then ok. But because nothing in any press releases I've seen (and I admittedly haven't scoured them) mentions that factor, that's the impression it leaves. If that decision was made for overriding other reasons, I can grasp that, but a nod should at least be given - almost like some sort of "well, we know this will interfere/impact/whatever, but ...........". You know, some acknowledgment that at least there was some self-awareness.

And I still think it hurts the students, with more travel time. Not to mention it's more expensive for the schools.

All that said................using the Sadducees as a proxy wasn't the best way to go (imo), as it caused me to wonder how you meant it. In retrospect, it's not inconceivable someone could catch that, but it's really not accurate, either. But I can see the point now. As an aside, as someone who's dealt with communication 'issues' in important circumstances........I've thought about this a great deal, and come down to thinking communication is about 80-85% on the initiator, and 15-20% on the receiver, IN GENERAL, with HUGE leeway for asinine stupidity, inattentiveness, etc. - the normal variability in interactions.
(Not being critical at all; just sayin'.)

RE: Buc fans thoughts on Wednesday games?
This will be a season-long experiment for the SoCon. If the loss of the Wednesday night church goers hurts the gate too much, they'll find another arrangement next season. I have a feeling what they will be looking at more are impacts on expenses and TV revenue.
I hate to restate the obvious (but I will), but college basketball is a business and the conferences are looking at what's best for their business. The primary focus will be on revenue and expenses and anything else is secondary. And I have no problem with that.

I think your most recent position is correct; we can't know the religious specifics of the people on this board.

I referenced the Sadducees because they used superficial characteristics to determine who should be excluded from "the church crowd." Too oblique, perhaps.

RE: Buc fans thoughts on Wednesday games?
This is an "issue" in my place of worship. No, not a giant one in the overall scheme of things, but it's maybe as bad as I expected it to be - if not slightly worse. Really a poor decision, altho I know other factors were driving the bus. Not that they should, but they do. I hate to say it, but it has, as feared, soured me a bit on the SoCon administration.
