I think Rowan is watching right now. They will do the same if NCAA approves St. Thomas. They could join New Jersey Inst. of Tech in the A-Sun and football in the Big South with Monmouth.

Link? Proof that they are entertaining such thoughts?

Did Rowan get kicked out of their conference?

You know, we ask repeatedly for links of what he claims and he never provides them. It's like we are the insane ones doing the same thing and expecting a different result.

He does realize Rowan is a public university, right?

Rowan Students Excited For D1

There seems to be plans for a 5000 seat basketball arena and a 25,000 seat stadium. I got that info from a Rutgers forum.

This board needs a DavidSt forum where he can post his dreams so the rest of us can ignore.

So, your claim on a Rowan to D1 move is based on info from message board chatter.

The problem here is that it would divert significant traffic away from the Realignment forum, as many visitors tune in specifically for the DavidSt concert. 05-stirthepot

RE: Fasttracking St. Thomas straight from D3 to D1?
I remember the Rowan thing coming up before, from DavidSt. Rowan has a NJIT problem. As in, look at how bad NJIT has had it from pretty much every northeastern conference because they just moved up without the firm support from any of them.

I don't know if there's a NEC or America East invite for NJIT coming anytime ever (other than the occasional affiliate kind, like lacrosse got last year), but were it to, it would make Rowan's chances even more slim.

I have heard some of those schools in NJ have considered D2; driven by recruiting out-of-state students, which has been a challenge at some of those places.

Rowan honestly wouldn't be a bad candidate to move up. They're one of the top state school in NJ, 20k students, and yet virtually nobody has heard of them. I grew up in PA an hour and a half from their campus, and hadn't heard of them, nor did anyone from my High School go there (but we had several UD, Rutgers, Suny schools, etc)

Same, and maybe because it went through a couple of names in the 90's, from Glassboro State to Rowan College to then Rowan University. Same goes for TCNJ/Trenton State. Heck, the first time I heard of TCNJ, it was at a soccer game, and I wondered what this random NJ school was (because I never heard of them). To find out it was a rebranded Trenton State.

If you look at the entire New Jersey Athletic Conference, it doesn't look like a DIII conference:

RE: Fasttracking St. Thomas straight from D3 to D1?
Rowan University Sports Facilities Upgrading

Quote:Rowan University's Board of Trustees approved a resolution with West Campus Fields to lease 300 acres for the development of a multi-sport athletic complex.

The University has been working closely with Elite Development Program (EDP), the lead partner in West Campus Fields, to develop the complex. The plan includes a 4,500-seat arena, an indoor training center, more than 50 athletic fields, artificial turf fields, baseball fields, tennis courts, outdoor track and field venues, a hotel and retail space.

Quote:Steve Shilling, president of EDP, told university officials that EDP believes they will be building the best youth sports venue in the United States.

The facilities are expected to draw 1.5 million visitors a year, primarily for youth sports tournaments and training, and will be the home of Rowan University's athletics.

The plan calls for the complex to be on Rowan's West Campus, where the university began purchasing farmland in 2002. The site has become home to the South Jersey Technology Park. In 2016, Rowan sold roughly 100 acres of the land to Inspira Health Network to build a regional hospital which is currently under construction.

Football Stadium Project

The 50 field sports complex also looks like a new stadium being built. They want to move all the athletics to the west side which means new basketball arena, football stadium and all that. Rowan spent over $400 million on upgrades on campus and new buildings from academics, housing and athletics.

[Image: Rowan_University_Holly_Point_Commons_1_J...gement.jpg]

This is all that they have as an example. Rowan is in Glassboro and like a suburb of Philly on the southeast side. They excell in sports winning a bunch of D3 titles in different sports. They could be like the next Delaware, Villanova and Temple at D1. They seemed to be well funded than NJIT. How many D1 programs can claimed they have a hotel on their sports complex?

So a link from 2017 and a link from 2009. Well done!

And neither mention moving to D2, let alone D1.

Mutos Sports Complex

This is from last year. They are still building in that area.

Besides a hotel, they would have food businesses, a sports pub and other retail. Rowan is becoming a town inside a town that way. A hospital right next door to the sports complex and all that. There seems to have been a lot of planning into this.

Seems the person spearheading Rowan's growth is George Norcross who hates Rutgers. He wanted Rutgers-Camden to merged into Rowan. From this point on, it is more political infighting in New Jersey which seems why Rowan been talked about moving up.

RE: Fasttracking St. Thomas straight from D3 to D1?
Rowan Could Go To D1 For All Sports

Quote:The university also plans to expand the programs offered at community colleges on weekends, nights and online. Additionally, some of the school’s sports teams, now in the NCAA Division III, could move to the top division, Houshmand said.

Quote:And last year, Christie proposed having Rowan take over the Camden campus of Rutgers in the higher-education reconfiguration. Rutgers students, faculty and alumni protested and prevailed that the flagship state university should still have a presence in southern New Jersey. But as part of the university restructuring, Rutgers-Camden will get greater independence from Rutgers’ New Brunswick-based brass and will collaborate with Rowan on medical science education.

Why would Rutger's students, alumni and faculty care about Rutgers-Camden? University of Alabama students think that UAB should be free from their school.

I guess the question becomes how do they shape up to NJIT. Even though they've struggled with their D1 identity, I bet NJIT has a much better name recognition than any of those other schools, though that may not all be because of athletics.
