Utah Football: Game-by-Game Predictions for 2019

Quote:NIU Huskies
Sept. 7 | Salt Lake City, UT

When these two teams met in Week 2 last year, it was an absolute snoozefest. The Huskies were only able to muster six points which was 14 below their season average (obviously not a great offensive season) while Utah dropped 17 to win at Huskie Stadium.

GO NIU!

Beat Utah.

Utah fan here. I hope those coming to the game have a great time. I also hope you don't have another Sutton Smith on the team. He almost single-handily won the game.

Curious as to who the big performers will be for you guys on the offensive side of the ball.

If I were an Illinois State fan, and/or associated with their football program, I would make sure every coach and player saw this thread.

Few motivations are greater than being dismissed or ignored, especially with the apparent stamp of approval of an opponent's main fan board.

Which prompts me to ask: how low can we get? Who's side are we on? And are we campaigning for 'troll of the year' award?

While you're at it, consider that every respectable coach would gag at seeing something like this.

Utah’s window of opportunity is wide open

Quote:Kyle Whittingham’s Utes have improved just as the rest of their division has regressed. Just a bit more improvement could mean their first Pac-12 title.

All of us NIU fans are curious to know as well.

9/7 can't come soon.

Excited about this SEASON OPENER (for us Huskies anyway, good luck against BYU).

The Utes rank No. 13 in Athlon's Top 25 for 2019

I suppose they would think that since they don't know that its really just a response to the one ISU troll.

Well there's plenty of NIU hate on their board (granted probably just jons and some of his alts) so just look at it as evening the playing field. Or fun banter.

If they don't like it they should step up to major college football (FBS). Instead, they made the decision long ago to stick with what was then I-AA to focus on basketball, and they're not particularly good at that either (22 year NCAA drought). And let's be frank-- the only reason FCS teams can compete with some of the FBS is because B1G/SEC/etc players transferring down don't have to sit out. For example if Bowers wasn't confident in getting a waiver and had to sit out NIU probably doesn't land him and he probably goes FCS. If they wanted to step up to FBS, they gain the scholarships but lose that transfer advantage so it can't be assumed they'd come out ahead.

Let's keep this thread ON TOPIC, and of course, that topic is the 2019 Football SEASON OPENER on 9/7 vs the Utah Utes of the Pac-12 Conference (oh yes, and also the POLL question at the top of the thread about the three OOC games).

GO NIU!

Welcome to the board. As the other poster mentioned, I am kind of at a loss on that question. We don't know who the QB will be. Tre Harbison is our starting RB and averaged 5 ypc last year despite a poor passing game and almost no deep threat to loosen up the defense. He will be an important person in the game. Spencer Tears showed major flashes in the conference championship game last year though his numbers overall weren't great. Better QB play will help that though. Our TEs could be important, we have a bit of depth there due to injuries last year.

I picked Vanderbilt basically because it's their best chance to win. Utah would be the most exciting to actually beat this year, though it's a tall order.

Yeah it depends on how you look at it. Nebraska is still one of college football's bluest bloods even if they haven't been in national title contention since the late 90's. And even though we beat them a couple years ago it would send shockwaves out again. Plus many expect them to win the B1G West. Utah while not a blue blood is expected to win their division at least if not the Pac-12 title game. Vanderbilt is projected near the bottom of the SEC, although that's the strongest conference and any SEC win should be celebrated. Plus it's fun to visit Nashville, so if the question is what excites you that helps.

I presume that these two reasons are playing a big part in Vanderbilt currently leading the POLL.

But I do love me some SEASON OPENER kickoff action.

And it's always a good time kicking some "Big Ten" butt.

Who's (used properly) ready for some 2019 NIU Football!?!

9/7 cannot come soon enough.

GO NIU!

Beat Utah.

Am I seeing this right- the Utah game is on PAC 12 Network only. Might be tough to see it on TV?

You can see which TV providers carry it here:

https://pac-12.com/getpac-12networks

I've got DirecTV which unfortunately does not carry it (Dish Network does though) so it looks like BWW for me.

Sling has it but you need to pay an extra $10/month for the Sports Pack.

Also, streaming service Fubo carries it, and you can get a trial week for free, so you could just sign up for that the week of the game and cancel it after the game.

For you who are going to Nashville; Vanderbilt plans to conduct alcohol sales to the general public for home games this season, per article in today's Tampa Bay Times.

If you're desperate and don't want to sign up for a free trial. My guess is it will show up here.
