Ok fine we scored a couple times today....against ourselves. That means absolutely nothing. Hopefully Bloom can turn this thing around before his contract is up but honestly just don’t see it. My personal opinion is that I believe his scorched earth I only want my players mindset was bad for the program that was already struggling. Took some guys that understand Rice and what it meant to play in front of a couple dozen fans and not let that be a downer. He chose the my guys mentality and maybe that will work in time. If it does then he will go down as a good coach and program builder. If it doesn’t work out he will be coaching oline for the Bills or Saskatchewan Roughriders in a couple years.

I think you may be able to get away with "scorched earth I only want my guys" at a football factory where there is plenty of talent around.

But at a place like Rice, where you are chronically short of depth, I think you have to try to figure out how to use everybody you have one way or the other. Maybe that means you have to make some changes in scheme. But I think you have to put your 22 best athletes on the field and see what happens, whether they are your guys or somebody else's guys. And your schemes have to be ones that let you get your best 22 on the field. I don't want to get beat with one of my best 22 standing on the sideline.

Completely agree. Use those older guys best you can and as they go you will have grown you base with your own recruited guys. Rice needs every able bodied player it can have and we turned away a bunch of guys. Those guys may not have won games but dang sure would have given us quality depth and a chance to be competitive.

exactly. The fact that the majority of our offense doesn't work very well isn't on the QBs.

Been saying since bloom came to town. Any monkey can run the offense. We just aren’t good enough up front unfortunately. Big strong d line guys are all over the map but quality Oline guys for the Bloom system are few and far between.

Lol really look like a moron when you say things like “big strong D line guys are all over the map”. Dline is the hardest position to recruit for every school.

Well, at least one who can be an All-Conference wide receiver, too.

I'm guessing he means Dallas Cowboys (and Tony Romo).

Green and/or Towns may well have great Rice careers, but it’s unclear to me how signing two two-star private school QBs (although Jesuit does play with public schools) with no other FBS offers generates “hype”.

Same hype we are hearing from the roost for another two star J Johnson. No big offers and not Blooms original guy...remember the kid who decommitted and when to Buffalo school.

Word is Stewart had an very average practice/scrimmage yesterday. “Not his best day” as reported by the roost??
Offense moved the ball with the ones, with subs everything went south, just like last year. Long year ahead with only a pocket passer at QB

Chase was a two star.

FTR:

The Roost Wrote:Tom Stewart took reps with the first and second team, but was unable to get the offense past midfield, not one of his better days.

Wiley Green is holding onto the starting QB position for now. It's his to lose.

Two of last season's offensive linemen are beating out the graduate transfers for starting positions. One of them is the Center, Servin, who is doing an outstanding job.

Servin isn’t a center.

He's one of the returnees on the OL who's having a great fall camp.

I'm most encouraged at Green holding the QB position. He's ahead of Stewart and Marshman.

The Roost says Green is the heavy favorite to be named the starter after his performance in today’s scrimmage.

Am I only the one who can't recall the difference between any of last year's returning QB's? Hopefully Green impresses me enough this year to make an impression.

As far as the OL goes, I'm pretty certain the 8 main guys are all going to be in the mix so the starting 5 may not matter as much. And the line in general should be drastically improved from 2018 - and in fact, may be our best OL in quite some time.

No, FBO, your are not the only one having trouble with remembering last year’s difference at QB.
Glad to see that one of our QB’s is separating himself from the rest. I’m hoping to see real improvement.

Apparently there are only 3 redshirt seniors, 1 senior, and 12 redshirt juniors on the roster.

Enormously bottom heavy --- that aspect just hit me for the first time.

Would feel bad for team that they are young but when you run all of your older players off IMO you lose the right to feel sorry for being young.

Good news on Green.
