The Press Tower needs some work...still looks kinda small time. But overall, really nice.

ODU needs to host a bowl game within 5 years.

Yeah there is work still being done on the exteriors and then there is the phase 2 that will deal with that hideous North End Zone. Unfortunately there is only so much that can be done in one off season.

That is a crane. You can see the new "X" bracing being installed on the corners to handle the load of the new roof, scoreboard and roof truss cage

RE: Stadium Renovation and Construction Thread
Carier Dome schedule: Cranes in place till Jan 2020. Strengthening shell of Dome and building truss on top of the Dome to hold tension cables.

Sometime during March 2020 the Dome is out of commission until Sept 2020. The new roof will be installed along with a new moving scoreboard (from FB to BB) and new LED Lighting and Sound System

During 2021 and 2022: wider concourses, new seating??, improved concessions and bathrooms. Finally, AC will be added.

Nothing definitive on seating capacity but I expect it to drop several thousand.

The work began about a month ago. It will be located between Uptown and Top Golf and will connect to Legacy Arena which will also begin seeing construction in about two months.

Earthcam view of where statdium will be built.

How will the parking be handled? How close will it be to the dorms on campus?

The BJCC purchased the land where the Old Salvation Army was located across the street from the location of the new stadium that will be used for parking. There are also discussions about using some of the space that will be located under the new bridge currently under construction downtown.

What I think you'll ultimately see is parking being used at Legion Field and other parts of the city close to downtown and using a shuttle service to transport people to the stadium. The stadium will be about 2.5 to 3 miles from campus so students/UAB employees can use the Blazer Shuttle Service to get to and from the games.

What is the latest on the future of Legion Field? I'm not from AL but on the surface it seems like tearing it down would be the best COA.

Stadium will not be 100% done by the season opener with some finishing touches and some internal work remaining but should be by the next home game with ECU almost 4 weeks later.

I was skeptical of the construction schedule but seeing the 90% completion I am greatly impressed. I wish my projects went that smoothly.

So happy for UAB and the city of Birmingham. Looks like it's going to be an awesome stadium.

Agreed, looks real nice.

I am amazed at how a school went from shutting down the program to this in five years? Whomever was most responsible for this, I am surprised they have not been gobbled up by a bigger school to lead to a turnaround...

The shutdown could have been avoided by using simple effective communications between business leaders of the community and UAB/BOT officials. But yes it is a remarkable turn around for UAB and Birmingham. When you think about it, it would have been a disgrace to live in a city with a metro population of almost 1.2 million people with no FBS program in the supposedly capital football of the South.

Yeah most folks had their doubts, myself included. I mean demolishing the existing clam shells and building the entire east and west sides, ribbon display boards, new scoreboard, sound upgrades in one off season is a heck of a work and they pulled it off with working over weekends, holidays and 16 hour shifts on days and all of these taking into account weather delays. As it stands 95% of work will be complete before the season opener and rest of the work is really aesthetics and some internal work which isn't gonna be a show stopper and they have like 4 weeks after the season opener to get that 5% taken care of. All in all they have done an incredible job in one off season.
