RE: This season's record
We still have the same QB that Norvell elected to run the wildcat for 90% of the UCF game last year. I’m not buying into the undefeated hype. As always, this team’s goal should be to first prepare for conference play, try to win the AAC west, and hopefully beat UCF.

Expectations are higher and we have a crappy schedule. Most people would probably be disappointed.
*Go 8-4 in regular season and lose bowl game = very disappointing
*Go 8-4 in regular season and win bowl game = slightly disappointing
*Go 9-3 in regular season and lose bowl game = slightly disappointing
*Go 9-3 in regular season and win bowl game = good year
This is pretty much how I feel. We have 6 sure wins + SMU at home, IMO. That leaves 5 right now that could go either way:
Ole Miss, at Temple, at USF, at Houston and Cincinnati.
No way we lose all 5, so 8-4 has to be the floor, and the sky is the limit on the other end.
My best guess is OM is a tossup, we win at Temple and USF, lose at Houston, and UC at home is a tossup.
That comes out to somewhere from 9-3 to 11-1, so I'll say 10-2. Ask me again after the Ole Miss game, lol.

RE: This season's record
some games will be picked closed and i wouldn't bet on winning every close game. also there may be injuries that change the dynamics. winning every game is a great goal but setting this as an expectation is too much for me. I will guess 9-3 but keep in mind we have a chance to win each game. Just having an opportunity to win each game is quite an improvement and an honor over just a few years ago.
I'm just enjoying the moment and looking forward to the season.

Isn't it great that the answer these days is "yes"?!
Man, Porter years seem like a bad dream now.......finally.

Who is the guaranteed loss... or is it the likelihood that we stub our toes at least once?

Wonder if TG4 is still completely heartbroken because we replaced Porter and Tubby.

RE: This season's record
Imo, we will be good, but we got a lot of question marks on offense, defense and special teams.
I could see 3 to 5 losses, but i'll go with 8-4. We can beat every team on our schedule. It is possible but unlikely.
If we make the aac game, we will lose. We will lose the meaningless bowl game too. Very similar to last year. And the year before that.

Every game is winnable but nine games are losable.
Worst case: 7-5
Best case: 9-3
10-2 and I grow a Amish beard to celebrate.
11-1 and I start wearing a Greek fisherman's cap every day so as to accent the beard and elevate the celebration.
12-0 and I shave the chin portion of the beard as a statement of note.
13-0 and I color the remaining part of the beard Tiger blue and gray.
14-0 and finish No. 5 in the nation in the final poll and I leap from the Sterrick Building — as life will have been made whole.

Try us out Comrades.
We should be a fun example this season representing the AAC.

On a serious and sober note, I love the Sterrick Building (my favorite skyscraper in Tennessee) and sure hope it gets a new use.

From what I understand at the 99 year land lease is over sometime during the coming decade and a few folks are lining up. Fingers crossed.

The Sterrick is an architectural semi-masterpiece that is worthy of a new life. The Memphis skyline could be transformed with some of its current towers given new use (and night lighting) and with just, say, five new buildings of 200 feet tall or taller. I want to see it happen. I try to get to the city once every three years or so and some strong progress is being made on many fronts (breweries, restaurants, infill projects, etc.). The addition of some tall buildings would be wonderful.

It would be a very valuable piece of property in most cosmopolitan cities. Let’s face it. Sears Crosstown was an ugly industrial looking building and it was restored and the Sterrick is in limbo. I just don’t get it.

RE: This season's record
It was a poorly given 99 year land lease that has kept the Sterrick Building in limbo so long, nobody wanted to put any money into something that wasn't really theirs, and the grand kids/great grand kids who hold that lease were happy to watch it rot. When built, it was the tallest building in the south and still one of the most important pieces of architecture in the southeast to this day.

RE: This season's record
It would make a grand Unified Memphis and Shelby County School System headquarters. With offices for the school board, and centers for academic, athletic, and artistic excellence. There could be meeting space for award ceremonies, and possibly a grand hall for convocation and commencement ceremonies. There could even be a penthouse apartment for the use of the superintendent of schools. Its presence downtown would be a visible reminder of education to our citizens, and the many employees would add greatly to the business population in the center city. A dark corner of downtown would become a beacon of light.
