Preseason USA Today Coaches Poll
Coaches poll is out. As expected, no respect for the G5, way too much love for the SEC. Absolutely no love for CUSA.

#17 Central Florida (436)

And that's it.

Others receiving votes:

Boise State 118, Army 91, Utah State 32, Fresno State 32, Cincinnati 25, Memphis 24, App State 4, North Texas 3, Houston 3, Temple 2, Troy 1.

At least we have one team receiving votes. Well done North Texas. Now, lets all take care of business OOC this year.

I thought the BIG10 also received too much respect (7 ranked teams). I do not believe Ohio St., with a new head coach, is a top 5 team, and Northwestern probably isn't a top 25 team either.

I think Marshall will topple Boise and receive votes in week 3.

There are a lot of opportunities to knock off G5 schools that received votes. We all need to take advantage of those games.

We have both Boise and Cincy and Ohio is favored to win the MAC. And f we can somehow go into CUSA play 4-0 and I think we *could be close to the top 25.

RE: Preseason USA Today Coaches Poll
I don't really see an issue though. I believe the P5 have won about 83% of their games against G5 competition in the last 3 years. Altogether, there were 57 teams getting votes in that coaches poll, and 46 of them are P5, which is 81%. When you win less than 1 in every 5 games against someone else, you're just not gonna be seen on equal footing, nor should you. I'll probably have some bum-rush my comment for saying that, but that's fine.

I think OSU will be 3rd in their B1G division behind Penn State and Michigan.

This season is Harbaugh's make or break. Same with Franklin. Lots of people here love Franklin, but the big money players aren't happy.. He's gonna need to produce a playoff appearance this season.

Thanks. I believe this is the first time North Texas has ever started the season with votes in the coaches poll. 3 isn't very many, but it is a start.

You're not wrong. Until G5 programs start evening the playing field ON THE FIELD... why would they give more respect?

You would have a better point, if most of those loses hadn't occurred away.

Big scheduling and massive budget advantages are also impossible for G5's to overcome relative to P5"s. Add to that the vast difference in media coverage and it is almost impossible for a non-P5 team to advance up the athletic hierarchy.

Rankings are not based on a curve, but failure to recognize the inequity in P5/G5 matchups is also not fair.

We need at least one CUSA team to finish the season ranked every year. We have done that most years, but we need to keep it up. And of course we need to get the Access Bid ASAP.

It's not about making a point, it's about reality. Top teams in the country win home and away... and G5 programs HAVE to do that at places like Wake Forest, Missouri, Oregon State, Georgia Tech, whoever it is that we're facing.
