RECRUITING THREAD 2019-2020 Football/Basketball
I noticed some posters were listing their schools recruiting accomplishments. I thought this would be a nice place for everyone to keep us all abreast of our schools recruiting.

Syracuse not doing so great at the moment. But I expect that to all change with the Breakout season that we just completed. Dino is great at finding players to fit his system. SU's recruiting class is ranked #61 according to 247. I think our class can end up in the mid 30's this season.

That makes six key players gone from the Heels roster from last season. Roy Williams may have no choice but to go the Kentucky/Duke route to restock his program.

Of the Heels four incoming freshmen (so far) three are listed as point guards. Considering that was Woods' position, it's probably not much of a surprise that he is transferring.

The kids name is Seventh Woods? They must have gotten the idea for that name from George Costanza.

It's even better than that. From his bio on the UNC roster:

WOW!

And apparently the only other outstanding offer for this year's class for UNC is Precious Achiuwa. Doesn't look like they have a shot, however, so they are left with more run of the mill names.

RE: RECRUITING THREAD 2019-2020 Football/Basketball
The star level is roughly doubling. Paul Johnson got more than a few 3 stars who were only 3 stars because GT offered them. A lot of those 3 stars he has would be 4 stars if they stuck it out long enough to get the offers from everybody in the P5 who didn't win the 5 star lottery in early signing. If you count transfers he has immediately brought in five 4* players and we're not done yet. Paul didn't get that many 4* players in a decade.

RE: RECRUITING THREAD 2019-2020 Football/Basketball
The message in recruiting so far is crystal clear: the lines must change.

(inb4 GT fans murmur something about Sewak)

Quote:Khaya Wright, a defensive end from Miami, and Wing Green, an offensive tackle from Lee County High in South Georgia, both announced that they had accepted scholarship offers to become Yellow Jackets, bringing the class size to 18. Half of the group are expected to play on the line of scrimmage, four on the offensive line and five on the defensive line.

...

Green is listed at 6-7 and 270. He and fellow offensive-tackle commit Jordan Williams (6-6) are indicative of the body type that offensive-line coach Brent Key is looking for at that position. Green plays with quick feet and uses his long arms effectively.

https://www.ajc.com/sports/college/wing-...anczaZbrO/

The average difference in height between a Paul Johnson recruited line player and a Geoff Collins recruited line player is about a half foot.

Another high 3* .... another much bigger lineman.

Visited Minnesota, had offers from Florida State, Auburn, Louisville, Miami, Pittsburgh, Illinois, among others.

Huge commitment for GT tonight as 4-star WR Bryce Gowdy selects the Jackets over Syracuse. He had a lot of suitors but appeared to be down to the Jackets and Orange from most insider reports.

For us Tech fans, getting big time wide receivers committing has been a non-thing for over a decade...sooooo, forgive us if we are a bit giddy with Gowdy tonight.

03-thumbsup

FSU just landed the commitment of their number 1 RB target Jaylan Knighton. It was between FSU and Ohio State. He is ranked the 3rd all purpose back and 94th recruit nationally.

Congratulations! I guess this means Taggart CAN recruit on a national level after all?

I rectum so, I did not suggest otherwise. He did pull a 5 Star from Cali last year.

Yeah, some fans were questioning him - not you.

I feel like the ACC has some good coaches in place but they need a few years to get their system/recruiting. FSU is one such place, VT, GT, UNC and UL are too (I think).

That's a nice 4* WR and two way baseball player you had NC State. It'd be shame if they ... went elsewhere ....

Went back and looked it up. Paul Johnson 4*+ players:

--- 2017
Bruce Jordan-Swilling, 4*, OLB

It is notable that Paul Johnson had another 3-4 4* players that never played a down for him either due to academics or transfer.

Geoff Collins 4*+ players:
--- 2020
Jahmyr Gibbs, 4*, APB
Bryce Gowdy, 4*, WR
Miles Brooks, 4*, CB
Nate McCollum, 4*, WR
Derrik Allen, 4*, S (ND transfer)
Javier Morton, 4*, S

--- 2019
Jamious Griffin, 4*, RB
Antonneous Clayton, 5*, DE (JFC we need him on the field yesterday)
Myles Sims, 4*, CB (Michigan transfer)
Marquez Ezzard, 4*, WR (Miami transfer)
