I saw that story on the news last week. With all the local breweries in Wilmington, you'd think they could swing something with one of them.

How about "Sammy's Suds"?

$20 million is a huge number and I have to think it can be done for a lot less and done well. I would much rather see them renovate the stadium than think about a teardown. The main structure appears solid and I could not imagine why it could not be improved on . The field also could use a makeover, not to mention a real scoreboard.

We definitely need some major upgrades. But to call it a glorified high school field is too funny. Other major programs have complemented how nice the field itself is. And the only thing that has kept us from hosting a regional is the lighting. Our lighting doesn't meet the grade. We finally will have more restrooms next season, which is way past due. I would prefer to renovate and stay right where we are. But we are losing more parking all the time. I've heard the other spot considered is around the area where the track is.
What other major programs have complemented the field is ? THe field has a huge lip going from the infield to the outfield -much worse on left side that makes it all most impossible to repair without redoing the entire field itself. The grass and upkeep on the field is great and it looks good from the stands. I also see no chance that UNCW could ever host a regional with the concessions being a total zero, parking is a problem, covered seating does not exist. There are other programs around that I feel are not close to a UNCW but have UNCW beat handsdown when it comes to the stadium. The program deserves better and it will be a huge boost when it happens.

I agree that the stadium deserves much better. But, as it stands, the funds are not there. Our best option is to partner with an MLB team to get what we need done. UNC has a huge parking problem. I had to park about 1 1/2 miles from there stadium for their regional this year. Concessions would not be an issue anymore. We have the main concessions and two other concession locations available. We have two food trucks. One belonging to ARA, and the other is Poor Piggie's. There are also tons of additional food trucks who would be more than willing to setup at the games. We have the capability to meet all the standards for hosting a regional, except for lighting. We can't get around that without spending big bucks. That's what the NCAA has told us.

RE: UNCW to get wet?
I’m in my mid 30s and I know what I’ve been donating to the program and I’m astonished at my ranking amongst all alumni in lifetime points. I’m not way up there but it’s actually pretty depressing to know how little I’ve given and where I rank.

When we talk facility upgrades I can’t help but think how in the hell can we do it when my measly ass lifetime donations seem to be way above par. These guys need to get their hooks in these kids before they ever walk across that stage. Obviously no charge while in school. Get them in on high level status for dirt cheap first 2-5 years out of school.

It goes back to all the years the UNC System prevented us from developing a number of Masters and Doctorate programs. If could have developed those programs back then, we would be in better financial state now. Larger donations tend to come from those groups.

Is the system designed that way to prevent “smaller” schools such as UNCW from overtaking big brother UNC academically?

I don't see the other programs that complimented Brooks Field but maybe I missed that. I doubt the NCAA is going with a hole in the wall concession pared with a food truck. I have been to a few regionals and I just don't see how they ever allow the current stadium with better lighting to host anything. I like going to games there if its not a hot, sunny and if that is the case I just don't go. The place needs a total update and I'm not sure how anybody could see it otherwise.
Go to Coastal,Campbell,UNCG,UNCC and checkout the facility at those spots and you will see we are WAY behind those programs. Not to mention the big guys like UNC,Duke,Wake,ECU who are light years in front of UNCW when it comes to baseball stadiums and facilities.

How many of those programs, like us, are not fully funded? That’s the most necessary step. Because then funds raised can go directly to improvements instead of helping the program to just tread water.
