The Tigers finish 10-3 and #25 in the country. Also won the AAC title that year.

That was the best Tiger football team since Spook Murphy's undefeated team in 1963.

The 1992 team that started the season 0-3 with combined losing margin of 6 points in those 3 games and went on to finish 6-5 with the 5 losses being by a combined 17 points IMO was the best Tiger team since the 1963 team. Outscored opponents 312-181 over an 11 game season and Stobart made some bad play calls that held that team back particularly at Ole Miss at the goal line in last 2 minutes.

The 2014 lost by 7 on the road at #11 UCLA, by 21 on the road at #10 Ole Miss, and by 4 at home against Houston. After that, they pretty much beat the crap out of most of the rest of the teams on their schedule.

I watched both teams play and I stand by my original assessment.

‘92 team had NFL stars Issac Bruce, Ken Irvin; AA Joe Allison, QB Steve Matthews (who would have done better under a passing coach-still played a bit in NFL), Larry Porter, best punter we’ve ever had in Jeff Buffaloe, Russell Copeland, Xavier Crawford. 19th in the country in scoring. I will agree to disagree. I was at every home game of each and at Ole Miss in 92.

You can make cases for both teams. Interesting thread on the ‘92 team:

That's not even the best play in that game.

This play was better:

I watch that punch every few months

That BYU kid cheap shotted a Memphis coach earlier

Then after getting pinched he sucker punched another Memphis player

He was caught on the jaw an an angle that could have killed him

Jackson Dillon knocking Robert Nkemdiche out cold. 2nd best play, Freeze going for it on 4th and 1 at his own 30 and getting shut down.

Nkemdiche hasn't been the same since. He started dropping acid and jumping out of hotel windows after that.

Ole Miss quit on that play. They saw their alpha dog get knocked the f&%$ out, and they didn't want anymore.

I loved that one! Not many people remember that. Wish we had a clip. I think the missed FT bounced to Baskerville, and Keith was emphatically calling for him to pass him the ball. Baskerville was about to give it to the ref, but sort of shrugged and passed it to Keith. Keith took about 2 steps and slammed it.

At least that's how I recall it from sitting in the student section.

Somebody flipped it to Lee. Can't remember if it was Baskerville or not.

The 92 team would of been undefeated if Fuente or Norvell had been coaching

I remembered that he did. Nkemdiche took handoff and went right, stopped quickly and Jackson Dillon hit him as the 2nd guy to the ball. Big boom. Am I remembering incorrectly?

Video shows Dillon was the forth guy to the ball. Impressive play Tiger D. Huge play by G.Avery! L. Pegues and Noah Robinson swarm and then big JD pops him. Of course this article is by OldMess writer and has a dirty slant, but they were making a stop on 3rd and 1.

I always thought the hit by Avery did.

That's just a narrative that we will probably never shed.

Remember the Thursday night game v. Cincinnati earlier in 2015? And their QB got knocked out? On a clean hit?

I saw people elsewhere on the internet, fans of like Minnesota and Texas, calling us dirty and saying that kind of hit is associated with Memphis.

Watch the play again and you will see his head slam into the turf and that is what caused the concussion. Not a dirty play at all.
