RE: Expectations for next year....
Cleveland State made the Sweet Sixteen in 1986. They lost to David Robinson's Navy team in the NCAA Tournament. The enthusiasm from that win led to their new arena.

They made the NCAA Tournament in 2009 and beat Wake Forest in the 1st round.

Those are their only appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

6 players entering the transfer portal and the timing of Felton's firing make this termination sound like its due to player dissatisfaction and academic issues. Some of the players might have done poorly in summer school and might not be eligible in the Fall

There definitely will be at least one. Most likely a closed door scrimmage

Sounds like they are a team we should beat, and the FIU game sounds like a much better realistic test of where we’re at.

Cleveland State was 284th of 353 in the NET. They were ninth of ten in the Horizon League, which was 21st of 32 in the Conference NET. The Horizon League got worse when Butler left. FIU was a little below average in the NET in 187th.

RE: Expectations for next year....
I saw the game that Dodd and Phillips played the other night. Dodd is very good and can play both the 4 and 5. He is very aggressive. The west team triple teamed him in the 2nd half. He is very hard to deal with in the hole and has a lot of ball skills for a man his size plus is a good FT shooter and can hit shots with regularity from about 15 feet with ease. Good player. He showed quick feet for a big man and looks to attack off the catch. He showed a nice spin baseline and can effectively put it on the deck to create things after the mid post catch.

Phillips has really good explosive ability. He demonstrated that he can beat a HS defender no problem (albeit strong side) and can finish well. He faked a guy with a left move and just drove in and slammed it hard with ease. It was an exhibition but you could tell that he could blow past most guys and his shot looked pretty good too (lets see after a scouting report but he's smart so he will figure it out). Kai will be good for him because he can learn the ropes from a PG like him that has such sick handles and vision. And, they can play together as well. He can create his own chances and can score. I didn't see his 3 ball but I bet that it's pretty decent for sure. I didn't see ball-hawking 3/4 court defense but that may have been be design. The defensive aspect for him will be big. If he can really guard, that will help.

Both guys appear to be plus CAA guys and they will get their minutes even in year 1. I don't see a scenario that Dodd doesn't get at least 15-20 minutes in year 1. And, I can see Phillips backing up Toews at PG and also getting minutes with him as well and possibly starting some if need be at the off guard. Both are talented and will be able to contribute in year 1. And, they will only get better. The future for UNCW talent wise is VERY good.

Tolafree is a guy to watch. He's very good and has good explosiveness and size. He's going to factor in this year without question. He demonstrated spoting up off the catch as well as getting his plus finishing hard at the the rim so he's going to play. He has the tools to defend, but we will see how that unfolds. You could see him or Sims with alley opp dunks by design.

RE: Expectations for next year....
Looks like the 2019-20 basketball roster has been released. Also, looks like John Bowen and Mike Okauru will be redshirting. That leaves us with 10 guys that can play this year. Ty Gadsden being hurt for I don't know how long brings us down to 9 and Brent Jenkins is a walk on who seems like he won't get a lot of playing time so that makes it 8 guys who will likely play.

Really doesn't look like we are in great shape for a coach that really has to win now!

Bowen posted on social media yesterday that he was still waiting to hear back from the NCAA in regards to his waiver to play this season. Idk all the intricacies of the 100 mile transfer rule, but we really need that to work out for us.

Wow. I don't think I had an appreciation for how dire our situation is next year. I like the pieces we've accumulated but it's never a good thing when players are all but guaranteed playing time.

I have to believe there will be someone added to this roster. What is the drop dead date for adding someone? Beginning of fall semester?

Those of us who have been pointing out the trouble we are in with the roster this season have been chastised and told to "trust the process". We may have good players in place, but that can only be truly proven by winning games, which we haven't done. I see us in the bottom 3 again with little movement upward the year after than. Certainly nowhere near being a contender.

I hear ya. I generally don't "trust a process" until it shows positive results. But, hey, who am i?

LOL, Results man, results. Even when Scalf did some things that made us scratch our heads, we trusted the process, because he had the results to back it. We don't have that here. Hopefully the kid gets his waiver approved otherwise we are in deep $hit from a depth perspective

Jaylen Sims suffered some kind of lower leg or possibly a foot injury. Saw him wearing a walking boot and using crutches. No word on how significant the injury is.

WTF is he stepping on Kai?! Nobody should be within 5 yards of our star PG this early in practice.

Stuff like this happens from time to time, hopefully it's just a sprain and he'll be back in a month or so. Could've been a lot worse.
