OT - RIP Doc C
It is being reported on Facebook that we have lost one of the greatest men I have ever had the privilege of knowing. Godspeed Doc! This world’s loss is Heaven’s gain!!

Sad news to hear. Makes me regret that I didn't hang around the servery after dinner and listen to more Doc stories.

I'm confident that MPV will live on at WRC in his honor.

I didn't have a great classroom attendance record my first couple of years, but I don't think I missed a single one of his intro poli sci classes. Also took his constitutional law class, where he had some truly great lectures. The adjective "iconic" is grossly overused, but in his case, he really was iconic in the Rice community.

Rest in peace, Doc C. Our loss, and Rice's, will truly be heaven's gain. I still use "Myth-power-value" in my business law classes.

Not only a great--and great is not a word that I use lightly--professor, but a wonderful friend as well. I have no plans to join you any time soon, but please save a seat at the bridge table for me when I do.

I was (along with my somewhat constant group of roommates) one of the kids that Doc would extend his largess on traveling with; Southern Mexico, Central Mexico, and a slew of SWC football roadtrips, not to mention the 'week between finals and graduation' on S. Padre.

What an awesome guy, and awesome teacher.

The road trip with him to Chihuahua city, Parral, Creel, and across El Divisiero with 4 of my roommates was rather epic.

The look on his face when the off-duty cop/hotel detective and the hotel manager knocked and came into the room in Lubbock to retrieve the 'hotel lounge featuring some god awful local hipster' poster was priceless.

Didnt help that some asshat kicker had won the game for Rice in Lubbock a couple of hours earlier.

Doc C will always be remembered well from this quarter.

I didnt see any time/date for a service. This is something I definitely need to go to.

Some bantering about on one of these posts seemed to indicate a potential memorial ceremony at Will Rice after students returned to class

Very sad news and a loss for Rice, and especially for Will Rice.

I hope I can make it to the services and see a lot of old friends. Doc wouldn't have it any other way for us.

Doc C, Dr. Bill, John Parish: they certainly don't make RAs like that anymore. May he rest in peace.

Three great ones. Great is not a word that I use often--I think that we toss it around much too casually in our society--but it genuinely fits all three.

Any news on funeral or memorial service? That should yield a huge cross section of Rice alums from multiple generations, united as to a single and timeless thing in common — their (our) love for Doc C......

"Graveside funeral services for Cuthbertson will be held at the New Hope Cemetery in Liberty, Missouri on Aug. 3 at 10 a.m. Details on a campus memorial service are pending. The memorial will be held sometime after the beginning of the fall semester so as many members as possible from Doc C’s Rice family can attend."

It had better be in a large facility.

I am going to try and make the Liberty service as well as Houston.

Doc C and my mother attended KU together

I somewhat hope they wait until school starts so more students can attend
