I do not want to put carriage before the horse but want to know a realistic estimate of how much the NEZ will cost if we stick to the current theme we followed with the east and west stands. I know it all depends on the whistles and bells as well as we need to account for inflation but will we be able to complete the horse shoe with 35 MM? I saw someone mention that NEZ along with third tier on East side will cost us about 65 MM and even with inflation accounted will be able to finish the NEZ for 35 MM? Something like this here sans the upper suites and scoreboard.

From what I was told since it will be a combination of seating and a student venue deck area and relocating the scoreboard we in the $20M range. The goal was to get that from private donations and sponsorships. However, we are likely 4 to 5 years out for that because there are other funding priorities within the AD. The biggest being more charter flights for mens and women basketball.
I hope we raise that sooner than later. NEZ will be an absolute eyesore until we replace it. I wish i had that kind of money to write a check and make it go away . BTW aren't we raising 40 MM for this and scholarships? Or is that 40 MM campaign earmarked for something else?

You are correct...facility improvements and scholarships. The feeling is football has gotten a lot and there are other sports that need investments for the time being. I suspect we are 4 to 5 years before the project is completed.
Exactly why we need a specific campaign for the NEZ. ODU could set it up like if you double your donation from last year then half will go to the general fund and half will go to the NEZ fund. Let the fans decide how they want their money to be spent. I know if there were specific campaigns for projects I would definitely donate more money.
Football and basketball should be getting the vast majority of the funds. I have no problem with that. And if they would ever do a specific drive for the NEZ I would make a healthy gift for that too. It’s the most important athletics infrastructure investment we have. I really hope it can be done n 2 years, not 5. The stadium is incomplete without it.

I highly doubt that demolition would cost $4M to just get rid of those metal stands. Heck, give me a screwdriver, a wrench, $100, and a snack and I'll knock that out in an afternoon.
If I had to bet what the design will be for the NEZ, it'd be that we'd horseshoe the lower bowl, make an endzone entertainment complex over that (so like a bar, or suites or something), with the scoreboard overhead. Would probably keep the capacity the same, would improve facilities, add money makers for the school, and make it look like a complete stadium.

LOL. Beat my bid.
LOL. I'd sure drop by and scoop up a couple of bleachers for my back yard and ODU can save on labor and removal. Win win in my book.

This is very similar to what I discussed with the design team on site.
I still hope that if we do complete the lower level horseshoe and get the flat entertainment space and scoreboard behind it that we do have the ability to put stands above/around the flat entertainment space. While the NEZ is currently an eyesore and does not live up to the standards of the rest of the renovations, it is just about as tall as the rest of the stadium and gives it a good look in terms of size. If it gets cut down to only the height of the lower level, I think it will make it seem small. Maybe I care about things that don't matter lol, but I think there is a way to incorporate the flat entertainment space that they want badly for some reason but also add more seating space around it.
EDIT: Something along the lines of the end zone in Heinz field. Not an exact replica of it obviously but in theory

The NEZ will end up looking like Ballards original proposal. Every change that has been made from the populous design has gone towards Ballards original design. There is no way this thing tops out at 22k. That would be a disgrace. 30k needs to be the goal

Filling the stadium need to be the goal. We can’t fill it as it is now.

I think if we have a giant horizontal scoreboard above the endzone it will look good. That should rise up high enough to visually fill in the space where an upper deck would be. It sounds like we may actually lose capacity with the NEZ until we get an upper deck done. And it sounds like that would be phase 3.

We had 60+ sellouts (yes the quality of those sellouts faded towards the end) and Im tired of people acting like we have 15 people in a 20k stadium. We fill the stadium with among the highest percentage of stadiums in the G5. Nowhere does it say that you have to sell out in order to increase your stadium. Honestly if they added an upper deck with no fees I bet a lot more people would get tickets since so many have an issue with the seat fees.
