I'd never heard that before from anyone, but I immediately went to look up that Chick Fil A Logo and yea I can see it.

Doesn't matter. CPaw is still great.

Absolutley

Best logo in sports IMO. I'm biased.

Agreed. Took the UC canopy on vacation this year, got quite a few shout outs, questions, and a couple taunts. But everyone knew it was the Bearcats. The C-Paw is slick and the success of the football and basketball programs have helped to establish it as a strong brand.

In regards to the older 90s C-paw, it never did it for me. I always thought it was sloppy, like someone scribbled it on a napkin and handed it in to the AD and the AD was like "good enough".

One of easy fixes I like for current C-PAW is an outline. Red C-PAW outline in white on a black helmet and jersey would go a long way.

I would like to see a mock up of this but unfortunately this is beyond my MS Paint skill level lol.

Some UC fan merchandise has this look. Mostly hats. The C-PAW is very off-centered and actually looks rather awkward on certain gear. I think it’s difficult logo for embroidery. The far right claw always looks out of place. The outline always seems to bring all the elements together.

At the end of the day the C-PAW and UC overall need a refresh. 2006 was a long time ago. I am not sure why the university continues to use an athletics logo closely associated with its darkest hour. If you were on campus during that period you might recall how angry everyone was with Huggins situation and how logo reveal was a big flop.

For me this logo will always be associated with Zimpher, Mike Thomas, and Mick Cronin. Oddly enough I associate the bearcat eyes and scratches with the football team which is why i probably miss them even though I thought they were ugly and out of place just like UA Cincinnati stripe.

A brand refresh would great way to bring in new era of positivity. UC has basically changed looks every decade or so. Angry Bearcats over Cartoon Bearcats. Bold UC logo over slanted off-centered C-PAW. Bold Cincinnati instead of italics for the wordmark. UC has great logos from the 60, 70, 80, and 90 that can form the foundation for a rebrand. After 13 years there is only so much you can do with the C-PAW. It’s not old
enough to be classic like the Reds wishbone C or Ohio State’s block O. It’s a relic of time period when logos were slanted to show movement or progress.

Kind of a combo of [Image: Cincinnati_OLD15.gif] and [Image: Cincinnati_H.gif].

Reminds me, I have linked the Helmet Project site before. This is a really cool site with historical helmets from bunches of different football teams. I do like the 80's UC helmets but the c-paw is much more aggressive looking than the original c-paw.

The 1970s Interlocking UC is money. It’s still sold today on gear. The dueling horseshoes UC is junk. Angry Bearcat is awesome, any version Sandy Koufax era baseball, 1960’s or 1980’s. Hanging Bearcat, Cartoon Bearcat, and ginger bread Bearcat no way.

2006 was the start of the University becoming the most relevant it likely has ever been. As someone who is not from Cincinnati, and was a freshman in 2006 the Bearcats were always considered a small time program. College Basketball is nowhere near as popular as football. The Rutgers game in 2006 is what made me become a diehard bearcat. I associate the current logo with the best overall run the school has ever had.

The previous logo's everyone keeps going on about are all part of some of UC's darkest times. For everyone that still holds animosity against Zimpher for the whole "Huggins Fiasco," I hate to break it to everyone, but the basketball team had not done anything since 1995.[/i]

RE: Jerseys
the Liberty bowl helmets vs Vandy were cool with the numbers on one side.

The helmets vs Duke in the Belk in 2012 may be my all time fav of the new era stuff.

But the interlocking UC from the early 70's is pretty cool.

RE: Jerseys
In my opinion the c-paw is the the best sports logo UC has ever used. The interlocking UC is generic. Oklahoma, Houston, Kentucky, USC, etc. all use some variation on this concept.

I do however agree that being italicized does often make the logo appear a little off-center in a lot of applications.

I would love it if they could update the logo and wordmark to find a happy medium between the current c-paw and the old c-paw. Keep the Friz Quadratta based typeface of the current logo, but remove the italicization. Something along these lines, but cleaner.

Football growth has been amazing since leaving C-USA. I don't think its right forget the other times UC football has strong teams. The late 1940's and early 1950's included 8 winning seasons in 9 years, 4 conference championship and three bowl games. The early 1960's included back to back conference championship. 1970's had a run 6 winning years in 8 seasons including a 9 win team in 1976. 1990 and early 2000's brought a run winning seasons and bowl games that made the move to the Big East possible. Its about time UC honored those teams too. Old football throwbacks.

The old C-PAW and the Jordan uniforms are iconic. Closely associated with the basketball success of the 1990's and early 2000's. Final Four, Elite Eight, Conference Champions, and teams that spent weeks a number #1 wore that logo.

There is a such high quality old logos, throwback uniforms, and classic teams from all of UC sports that I wish the school would pick a old team for each sport to honor and wear those uniforms. Maybe call it the O'Varsity program. Football is honoring 2009, time to bring back the Cat Scratches and Bearcat Eyes. Maybe basketball could honor Kenyon Martin and the 2000 team. Jordan style throwback uniforms. Maybe the following season its the Sun Bowl team of 1950 and basketball's 1961 championship team.

I have been asking for that style upgrade for a while. Try that with an outline and see if that even looks better.

daddy likes...maybe keep the italicized on the football helmets. I think it works there.

RE: Jerseys
I like the italicized version. I agree - it looks kind of dumb when placed directly over the UA symbol by it looks good everywhere else it goes. When they redesigned it, the description said something about movement and aggressiveness. I would agree with that. I like it how it is currently but agree the it should include different color combos.

I think an all black uni with a red only c-paw and some red accents (no white) would be cool.
[Image: Cincinnati_R.gif]Similar to this but not the same.

Or that (all black and red) with a red helmet and a black c-paw (no white) would be cool. [Image: Cincinnati_O.gif]Like this.

Emphasize the red and black.
