That plot of land has been up for development 2 other times in the last 5 or 6 years if I remember correctly. Less then 2 years ago there was supposed to be a grocer and some other shops put there. Links here somewhere in this board.

That project from 2016 was being proposed by an outside developer, Jim Carr and his company Vistacor (based in Yorktown). He was working with the property owners at the time but it was ultimately put on the backburner for other projects.

This time around, the project is being led by Peter Meredith Jr (aka HAPRAH LLC, Meredith Construction and 2401B LLC), who owns two of the properties included in this redevelopment. I hope that is the difference between this being just an idea and reality.

I know that Veil Brewery out of Richmond is planning a brew pub at the old Chophouse location in Chelsea, and I see that this project has a brewery component. I hope that Veil looks at the possibility of building a brewery and restaurant here instead. Their plans may be already too far down the line.

The old NFK Chop House building that The Veil is renovating is on Colonial and 24th in the newly minted Railroad District. It will open before this development gets through city council, as they should be open late summer/early fall.

Correct me if Im wrong. Crittenden (building directly behind the current endzone stands) is for Navy ROTC and the addition on Rollins is for Army ROTC? I wonder if Navy ROTC will be incorporated into the NEZ building.

I took intermediate swimming (I had been swimming competitively since age 4), can you say easy A, in that pool in the 1990's while the main pool was being renovated or something. I also use to shower in the crappy locker rooms, before going to work in the admission office, every morning after coaching rowing. It was dark and gross in there. There were also some local kids who broke into the pool and drown. I think the school drained to pool after that.

Army is in Crittendon Navy was elsewhere, cant remember where. I feel like they used to be on the second floor of old Chandler Hall (School of Business)

I got my senior life saving certificate in that pool in 1969. We used to share te pool with a beginner class. The beginners used paddle boards to stay afloat. Before the coaches arrived We used to swim underneatrh them and pull them off their boards for real life saving experience.
I remember the kid drowning. Very sad.

I used to work in the admissions office from 2005-2009. The coast guard used the pool for training sessions for a bit. The swimming team also used it when the field house was torn down and the pool renovated. We heard about the kids drowning in the pool. It was fodder for many a ghost story amongst seasoned Rollins Hall employees.
