When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.

I think that quote, whether it's Sinclair's or not, is more on the mark than ever. Trump's wanting generals at his side is even more troubling. If he were REALLY wanting to celebrate our independence and democracy, how about instead having the leaders of the other "co-equal" branches of government up there with him?

We’re a republic, not a democracy. Also, should fighter jets and bombers not be flown over sports games during the national anthem then? Genuine question, not trying to start anything.

You're right, and the last elected POTUS proved that beyond a doubt by losing the popular vote by such a margin and still winning the presidency. We are a republic at the federal level. So substitute my use of "democracy" with republic and take a stab at answering.

To answer your question. I've always wondered why fly by's, parachuting in, etc are done before sporting events. I don't agree with it, we can sing the anthem, thank our armed forces, without having to see hardware.

My pops was a WWII vet and he never agreed with it either, seemed extremist to him.

RE: Trump's military parade on the 4th.
Pentagon said today it cost $1.2 million for Trump's July 4 "Salute to America," although the actual price tag was likely higher because money for aircraft demonstrations came from military's training budgets.

And National Park Service diverted $2.5 million in park entrance fees to pay for the event.

Because it’s cool and it screams America, I don’t know about the tanks thing tho. Where are the inhumane concentration camps? And are they refugees or apprehended illegal aliens? Aliens that want to come into our very “average” country according to the NYT and most of the left. If anyone can name a better country I’d like to know.

According to this article there at least 17 countries better than the USA https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worl...aab09954ee

Depends what you want in a country. If you are well off (i.e. the minority) and can afford to truly partake in the grand wealth the country as a whole has accumulated it's great. But if you're among the poor to average group.. lots of better places to be.

You’re joking right? No other country has the freedom, opportunity, and economic success that America has. Why are there so many illegals trying to pour into the US if it’s so mediocre? Not many other places in the world can you start from the bottom and work your way to the top. Please don’t come back with Nordic countries as an example as we basically fund their entire defense budgets. Just remember who had to bail the world out when nazi Germany started to overtake, not the UK, not France, not Sweden, not Canada. USA

Not a better place to be for an illegal, California is now going to give free healthcare to under 25 paid for by the good ole taxpayers..

Whether or not we "fund their defense budgets" aside, they have it better in the ways that you just pointed out that "no country has it better than the US", hands down. I think those "illegals" don't go there and try to gain entrance here instead has a lot to do with proximity and not being able to get a 2K plane ticket and passport in short order. 03-phew

It has been our choice to be defender of the free world. Now Trump has gone around insulting our life long allies, in rapid fashion, get's cozy with tyrant dictators, we will see a whole new world order.

To say his plan of action wasn't well thought out is an understatement.

Oh, and about the "Illegals"? First off, those caravans are refugees seeking asylum. They're seeking asylum from conditions in their Central America Countries due to a lot of US policies and meddling in their affairs for decades.

Plus, it's been part of our history, accepting refugees who are in dire need of help. It's quickly changing, like a lot of other things here.

It was just announced that an executive order was issued defying the Supreme Court decision. Regardless of the census subject, that should bother anyone who respects laws and the framework of the constitution.

We're circling the drain as a country, fast.

Glad we spent $3.7 million so Trump could tell us how George Washington took control of the 18th Century airports and the Continental Army "rammed the ramparts."

Dept. of Defense likes to spend money on these types of things, they hope to inspire people to enlist. It's a big reason they do flyovers as well. Meanwhile...why is California spending 100 million and soon much more on free healthcare for illegals?

The Dept. of Defense didn't seem all too happy to be shipping tanks to DC for the 4th now, did they? Trump tried for his inauguration, tried last year for the 4th, this time they decided to do it fast, no talk of money, and got their way.

So here we go to California. Is that the new "but Hillary"? I used to hear all about "States rights" in the old days from the right. What changed? 03-hissyfit

If California were a country, it'd be the 5th largest economic power in the world. It's a great state, and proven itself capable of governing itself. The fact it doesn't like Trump now makes it the target of spin, lies and flat out innuendo.

In this case, it covers people here undocumented (aka "illegals") who are low wage earners.

They, like us, can decide if that policy suits them next election. I'm touched by everyone's "concern" for Californians. I work there quite a lot, I can tell you, they're just fine.

California is disgusting, homeless everywhere, crazy high taxes, illegal immigrants all over the place living and getting medical care on tax payers. No accountability, all a product of the leftist policies. Record numbers of people fleeing the state, same with NYC and Chicago. There’s a reason these big leftist cities have all the issues.

In the 2019 Edelman Survey(CNBC) about half the state is looking to move within 5 years. The rate is even higher among millenials. 3 Main reasons:

Cost and availability of housing.
Health costs
Crime and security.

Even in Silicon Valley, people are paying about half their pre-tax income to cover their mortgages.

The "big leftist cities" have all the issues because they are the big cities. Which large cities are conservative hot beds?

You’re joking right? No other country has the freedom, opportunity, and economic success that America has. Why are there so many illegals trying to pour into the US if it’s so mediocre? Not many other places in the world can you start from the bottom and work your way to the top. Please don’t come back with Nordic countries as an example as we basically fund their entire defense budgets. Just remember who had to bail the world out when nazi Germany started to overtake, not the UK, not France, not Sweden, not Canada. USA

Gimme a break dude, that "opportunity" is a myth these days, upward mobility is incredibly rare in the US and its designed that way.

Its great and all that we have military might but that has nothing to do with the conversation about everyday standard of living, it isn't mutually exclusive.

Keep talking about this **** from your sheltered suburban Chicago upbringing, it's funny to watch your lack of perspective in every post.

The Dept. of Defense didn't seem all too happy to be shipping tanks to DC for the 4th now, did they?

And yet they stay. It's a great place, beautiful, great business climate, the public universities serve and incubators and spur on the unique Silicon Valley dynamic of tech innovation seen nowhere else in the world!

I consulted for a Silicon Valley company that wanted to relocate due to high costs. They put a whole business unit in my city only to find out that the talent level didn't come close, closed it up and moved back to San Mateo within one year.

All of these surveys rank right up there with the polls that said Trump was going to lose badly.

The numbers I see, it's even for inbound and outbound. The real estate market makes it tough to live there, but somehow people manage.

I work in that state quite often, I see a thriving, prosperous, functional population that is enjoying a wonderful lifestyle.

Yeah DoD seemed very upset...you must be confusing them with the butthurt Democratic Senators.

"The Department of Defense supported the 'Salute to America' with demonstrations by aircraft, static displays of equipment and ceremonial unit participation," the Pentagon said in its statement. "Funding for the demonstrations came from the military services' training budgets that facilitate flying hours, which are imperative to military readiness."

"The Department of Defense has a long history of showcasing military assets to the country in order to recognize our military's contributions to the safety and security of the nation, and to assist in recruiting future generations of Service members," Defense Department officials said in the Tuesday statement.

They also said it was a "military celebration" and instructed soldiers to say "I love my tank". So our celebration went from celebration our independence to a "military one". How nice. How fascist.

They say a lot of things, such as RELEASING AGAINST THE TRUMP WH'S WISHES THAT THE PARADE COST THE MILITARY 1.2 MILLION DOLLARS.
