Can you imagine how successful the men's team would be if it didn't have to compete with the NFL, NBA, MLB for top athletes. Would we actually lose a World Cup if the US had soccer as its primary sport?
This lawsuit and more specifically the players complete lack of understand and failure to show true patriotism are sickening.
the only money the players get from FIFA is World Cup prize money every 4 years. The players pay the rest of the time comes directly from US Soccer. US Soccer gets its revenue as follows:
In 2018, Sponsorships were 52 million, National team game revenues were 25 million, International game revenues were 5 million and then roughly another 10 million in assorted areas(US Open Cup, Coaching Courses, Olympic committee, etc).
In 2017, US Soccer made a ton more money (290 million) because of the Copa America Centenario(basically from South American teams playing competitive games in the US)
None of that comes from FIFA at all.
Currently, US Soccer pays the men's and women's teams in the following way:
US Men
Currently get paid $13,166 per US game when they are called up to the team whether they win, lose or draw.
US Women
Currently get paid around $5k per game but only if they play and only if they win the game. On top of that, select players(around 20) get paid extra yearly salary that tops out at $99k a year.
So compare Rose Lavelle and Gyazi Zardes so far in 2019.
Rose Lavelle was the Bronze Ball winner and one of the USWNT most important players.
Gyasi Zardez is an awful soccer player with a worse haircut that is consistently played by an awful manager at both club and country
Lavelle is not currently making the maximum $100k salary from US Soccer(newer to the program). She has played 16 games this year but they only won 13 games. So she earned $65k for these games.(Not including tournament Prize money).
So from US Soccer she averages $6500 a game this year.
Gyasi Zardes has played 11 games for the US this year and made 144k this year before prize money.
He averages $13k a game for decidedly worse and less popular product.
