Big Ten expansion has been a dud. Rutgers and Maryland in east division. Heck UC fans wouldn’t want them in AAC east, Maybe an even trade for ECU and Temple.
I think it has more to do with price than opponent. $60 for the cheapest ticket all season. $200 for prime games (Michigan, MSU, Penn State).

OSU’s been pretty open about their approach this season. Tickets are in demand but the sales rate is down across college football and they want to react before it’s a problem. That’s a scripted pr response but it’s a good plan. Plenty of people in this town want tickets but can’t get them. Set the hook with a mini plan and perhaps they buy every year.

I think you’ll be able to easily find tickets for the UC game but prices will be high. Face is $90. I’ll be up in C11 if any other UC fans are around you’ll hear us. Pro tip the cell coverage is awful so do not plan to be able to text or call reliability

Buying OSU tickets for me is conflicting but I can’t get to Cincinnati for enough games. So I can enjoy college football, tailgating, the pageantry etc. I don’t care how OSU does and if they loose it’s a bonus for me.

FAU, UC, MIAMI OH, MSU, WI, MD, PSU

does not have a lot of must see games.

Is that their home schedule? Seven games. You never know until you play the game but most can be penciled in as wins.

I'd take Cincinnati, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Penn State and Maryland as part of my home schedule any day. Not sure what the issue is.

First world problems.

In all honesty OSU is still going to fill up those seats. These type of games allow the t-shirt fans from places like Wapokeneta, Willoughby, Wooster, and Waverly to buy from disinterested ticket holders.

Commenting on how they rack up wins with the help of the schedule.
Bunch of home games every year. Several penciled in wins. Gets them to nine wins without any trouble. Win a couple more they are at 11 wins.

They don't have a headline home non-conference games. UC would be a great number 2 non-conference game but when you combine that with FAU and Miami Ohio that probably isn't exciting. Big Ten home schedule looks good but I think everyone would rather see a traditional Big Ten team instead of Maryland.

I just looked up their future home schedules. 2020 is awful with Buffalo and BGSU. Michigan at home is the only saving grace as Iowa, IU, Nebraska, and Rutgers is about boring as it gets in the Big Ten.

I have Ohio State graduates in my family who probably would rather see them go back to the 11 team conference. Nebraska, Rutgers, and Maryland are not exciting for older fans who would rather see a more traditional schedule.

RE: UC/O$U Tickets
The fans may not like this home schedule (its not great) but it works beautifully for O$U. Its the same recipe year after year: Because of their name, they start ranked, usually in the Top 12 range. Then, they blow through a schedule that isn't great and features a ton of home games, racking up wins against a lot of inferior teams. Their name plus the wins, plus the already high ranking means they hit the Top 5 by October. It gets them in the playoff discussion and puts them in a position to make it.

This happens a lot for them. Its also why they have been crushed many times once they get to the dance. They aren't as good as their schedule shows because its a junk schedule with a ton of home games. But their name gets them to the show. Then they get embarrassed.

Teams like UCF/UC/Boise are on the other side of this coin - may be actually really good, play a legit schedule, with all the 'big games' on the road, not home, and have to spend 90% of the season trying to get noticed and ranked and by the time it happens, the season is 90% over and they are just hitting the polls.

This entire system is a shame.

To be fair, OSU has scheduled a lot of top notch out of conference games. Texas, Oklahoma, TCU, Miami, Notre Dame, USC... all in the last 10 years or so. It isn't like they don't schedule OOC tough games, and they are 1 home 1 away contracts. It is tough to predict just how good a school will be when you sign the games 10 years in advance.

As I pointed out earlier...the Miami game was scheduled to replace TCU which was bought out by ESPN and moved to Jerry World last season.

Yeah, they've pretty much gone to the formula of one marquee nonconference game, one in-state game, and one other G5 school. If they win that marquee game, it immediately puts them in the spotlight. I'm actually driving down to Eugene next fall to see them take on the Ducks. That place should be going off for the game.

Agreed. I enjoyed UC football long before Nippert was anywhere near full and certainly not shiny and new. Competitively though, it was more the plight of a Cubs fan before that franchise's newfound success.

A full Nippert with the new amenities, more restrooms and a winning team beats the old experience in almost every measurable way. The one exception: I get tired of the compulsion to fill every available second during a stoppage of play with (very loud) commercial messages and pre-recorded music.

Some of my best UC football memories are cheering my ass off in near empty Nippert as a child/teenager. There weren't many of us left during this comeback but what an awesome feeling it was. http://a.espncdn.com/ncf/2000/20001118/r...soccj.html

Of course, the full house and winning we've seen starting in the mid2000s (throwing out late Tuberville) has been awesome.

That comeback against TCU (I think it was) during I think Minter's last season was epic. MANY folks left way too early and missed a fantastic finish.

I know the game you're thinking of. It was actually the
first game of minter's second to last year. Ended on a Doug Monaghan interception in ot in the endzone.

Tons of tickets available on Vivid Seats.

Happy to know the notches didn't keep you away forever. Welcome back.

What are these notches you speak of?

It was a lot more than notches. Let’s see how I feel after attending 6-8 games. College sports aren’t as much fun as they used to be.

There's just so much more angst involved now.

I used to LOVE going to UC football games back in the crumbling Nippert days. If we won, great! If not, no big deal.

I remember going to that game against UK at riverfront, looking at the big blue 'necks who looked at you like they wanted to kill you if you cheered for your team and thinking "man I hope I never end up that way".

It's like they took it so... personal.

Yeah, that's always been my gripe about UK fans, though it isn't exclusive to them. They just happen to be among the worst.

It's not just about attending games - I barely turn on the tv anymore. If anything, I'll pick a topic du jour and try to learn something via You Tube. I keep thinking to myself my money would be better invested by donating the dollars to a humanities program at UC.

Like I said before, let's see how I feel after attending 6-8 games this year. IF they disappoint, I won't be; if they outperform, that's a bonus.

UC is weak in the humanities. It's the difference between between a good education and a great one.

This. I'm in the business world, but I make a meager annual contribution to the Humanities. It's important.
