Exclamation 2019 Huskies Previews & More
With only 59 days until the Huskies kick off the 2019 season against ISU, it is that time when we should start seeing previews. I thought I would start this thread so that the previews, predictions and more could be posted and discussed in one thread.

This preview was published today on the Nebraska SB Nation site:

https://www.cornnation.com/2019/7/3/2065...ll-preview

Here is a College Football News early June preview, which I did not find very useful, as I have come to expect from CFN:

https://collegefootballnews.com/2019/06/...ayers-2019

Here is the first depth chart I have seen:

https://www.ourlads.com/ncaa-football-de...nois/91441

Of course, Jordan Rowell has now transferred. I see Bowers being the #1 QB and Harbison being the #1 RB. Who knows abut Erin Collins; I have not seen anything since his June 24th starting to get impatient tweet.

Of course, with the new coaching staff and the Bowers transfer, the previews of the NIU offense seems to be pretty much shots in the dark. I still seriously doubt Bowers transferred here cold, without discussion and promises being made about the O that will be run and his part as the starting QB. I just see Bowers and Harbison being more in line with the offensive philosophy of Hammock and the new O coordinator (Eric Eidsness), and Harbs has similarities to Hammock when he was the NIU RB.

Hustle Belt posted the Buffalo preview a couple of days ago, so I would expect to see the NIU preview there soon.

RE: 2019 Huskies Previews & More
The Bible of college football previews is Phil Steele, which you can find at any B&N. He picks NIU 2nd behind (guess?) Toledo. He also talked with Hammock in preparing his preview, albeit a month or two ago, and I don't know if it was before Erin Collins announced. He has Childers as the starter but says "all 4 are in the mix (w/ Valenti and Thompson) to start in the new offense." Harbs is #1 RB. Tears, Tucker and notably Richie over Robinson at WR. Also of note is NIU is #12 nationally on his experience chart.

Face it, the Huskies could win the MAC West 10 years straight and the vast majority of prognosticators will pick another team to win the MAC West the following season.

I wouldn’t want it any other way. Let the moron press wags keep picking Toledo as recruiting and MAC champs, while we keep taking the division and conference championships.

Yes it is. "I expect our offense to be dynamic, to match the level of our defense,” Hammock teasing fans and no specifics. Let's face it, there will need to be significant changes to make the O dynamic. I feel very comfortable with Hammock and company making good decisions.

The big question mark is still WR. No one has really stepped up. Tears has shown signs but inconsistent. We need playmakers.

I’m not too worried about our receivers now that we have a QB that can make the throws in Bowers. Good Qb’s make receivers look stronger. Very few receivers will make their QB look awesome unless they play at a Florida school.

Good QBs and receivers will not shine without an outstanding Oline. Does NIU have one this season? I honestly don't know but we will find out soon.

I couldn't agree more....we will go as far as the O-line allows.

I think this is the year that Cole Tucker breaks out.

It is hard to argue with the old saying that games are won and lost in the trenches. So, if the O-line plays well enough to open sufficient holes for the RBs and gives the receivers enough time to get separation and the QB enough time to find the open man, then I agree that Bowers will make the receivers look better. As much as I like Childers attitude and determination, he just has not shown he has the physical skills to be an effective passer, let alone making the receivers look better.

Curious as to what you see in Tucker to break out? He seems average in most all physical attributes. Not fast. Not quick. Not physical. Good hands, yes. But the “not drop the easy ones” hands more than the circus catch kind. Not knocking the kid. I think he’s solid. Just don’t know how he can stand out.

Agree on WR position being, shall we say , less than strong.

My hope is 6’ 5” Dennis Robinson has bulked up and will step up as a consistent target.

I don't think bulking up is Robinson's weakness. He needs to learn to catch the ball under all circumstances.

I just think with the amount of passes dropped by the other wideouts last year, Tucker will be able to develop a comfortable relationship with Bowers which will lead to more passes being thrown his way.

This. He needs to be a more consistent pass-catcher, that, and work of his route-running (hopefully, the new coaching addresses and helps with the latter).
