Mobile tickets replacing Paper tickets?
Noticed some schools banned the issuance and acceptance of PDF printout tickets and made mobile tickets the only online single game ticket purchasing option.

Check Penn St for example. Want a stub mailed for keepsake of the 100th and final Pitt/Penn St game? Or the consolation of a printout? Nope, single game tickets have gone exclusively mobile.

I imagine schools instituting this policy will turn away longtime fans in older generations. Not everyone owns a smartphone.

Frustrating trend for collectors too if season tickets and walk-ups (not an option for pre-sold out games) are the only avenues towards tangible tickets.

This is only going to accelerate among all forms of ticketed events as a way to block scammers. In the past couple of weeks, I’ve been to a Hamilton performance and MLB game and I’ll be going to a concert tomorrow, and all of those events are mobile tickets only. It’s just too easy for people to get scammed with multiple paper copies of tickets today.

As for older generations not having smartphones, we’re over a decade into the smartphone era. It would be like complaining about having to use the Internet to print tickets back in 2005... as opposed to marveling at the speed and instant convenience of it all. Time and technology moves on.

There’s just something special about that timeless ticket stub keepsake. I’ve collected one for every game and it’s sad people’s collections will have to come to an end.

We’ll see how much people are marveling at the speed and instant convenience of it all when they lose their cell service and can’t get in.

I haven’t used a physical ticket in three years. For a few years before that it was printouts from a computer. I don’t think this will be a reason for driving anyone away

Most events you can go to the box office, present an ID and get your paper tickets if you want them. I’m a LouCity and UofL season ticket holder. That’s an option you have at both venues I regularly attend.
