a little "run down" on this years Redbird squad. According to this article, the FBS game against our Huskies is a winnable one.

also has them ranked #9 in FCS

Seemingly impressive team coming in with a 2nd year QB transfer from Memphis (hey we got one of those too??), solid OL and a good and improving defense.

This one’s interesting in that the ISU D faced Eidsness’ offense twice last year (and lost both barely) so between that and NIU film from last year You’d think they’d have enough film and time to prepare for us unlike anyone else on our OOC schedule. God, please let Bowers be good enough to start and blow these ******* out of the water! I just fear having high expectations out of the gate with a new everything. It’s going to take time for us to gel on both sides of the ball.

Hopefully we get up big enough we can rest starters late because next week is Utah and they're expected to have the best rushing defense in the nation.

This thread is mute until we know the starters. Will it be Bowers or Childers. What will the Oline look like. Who will be starting at WR? Any true freshman step up (McCray)

I have a feeling we will know very little from the mouth of the coach, and may only get a sense based on reports on who is taking the snaps and otherwise working with the 1s. When the two-deeps come out that should give us more information, but I am not even sure that will give an accurate picture. Frankly, I think we will know on game day when the starting line-ups are announced.

We know enough to evaluate the team. You can list 19 of the 22 starters with some certainty. Only unknown is QB, RT and wr 2,3. But We basically know the wr depth. It is just a matter of field and down situation because it’s Tucker, Richie or Robinson. All 3 are probably equal and will see similar reps. And I’m not worried about RT or RG depending where Steckler is.

So much just rides on that QB question; Is Bowers legit or has Childers improved? Either way it will be better than last year. So there’s that.

Also, who emerges as the new playmaker. Someone will. On offense maybe Nettles breaks out. Maybe Robinson. On defense maybe it’s Lorbeck, Hogans or Mckie. Super exciting year.

Who do you see lining up on the OL left to right?

Cox, Patton, Perez, Veloz<-->Steckler

Perez can move to guard if need be. There is really good depth up the middle. Whatever combo they go with will be good. It's tackle that is worrisome. Not a Veloz fan. He's just ok. Steckler will end up at RT just out of need. But I'd like him at RG. The line will be fine as long as Cox succeeds at LT.

plus, there will be improved blocking from the TE position. Harmston was pretty bad and the youngsters didn't do so great either.

What about the grad transfer Andrew Starr? He's listed as 6'4". Any indication if he's in the running?

Here is the thread on an ISU fan board titled: ISU over NIU listed as a possible FCS over FBS upset.

http://www.redbirdfan.net/forum/viewtopi...f=6&t=1662

Sort of what you would expect.

A lot of really ignorant posts in that thread. LOL. Will only make the beat down sweeter. We should beat them by 50 just to teach them a lesson. Some are even calling us the little brother school. I don’t think most of them understand the difference between FBS and FCS, or the kind of Kingpen programs we put on our schedule to start the season. Do I respect their talent level? Yes. But am I biting my nails about the redcocks? Nope 03-lmfao This season can’t start soon enough.....

meh

I hope an NIU grad didn't design that website, pretty bland and depressing.

I know a lot of ISU grads, most are pretty nice folk.

I'm glad theres some trash talking going on. Makes the game that much better. ISU is good at their level. NIU is good at their level. NIU's (football) level is higher than ISU's. There is no question, debate or scenario this isn't true. It's just a matter of who will play up to, below, or over their own [/i]level that day.

Honestly, ISU calling NIU "little brother" on a football thread just reeks of trying too hard to troll. Almost desperate. Gonna be a fun fun day!

Holy **** talk about delusional biased fans. One guy said that Bowers isn’t accurate and doesn’t make good decisions. Guy never seen him play in his life. Nobody knows what he can do at this point in his career until we actually see him in camp/games. Wow. Now I really would love to see NIU go for the kill shot and embarrass them.

They might be underestimating NIUs defense somewhat. It wont be the unit it was last year, but there is still talent
