Agreed.

Invest in some shuttles. Work great in other stadiums

+5

shuttles for parking, but more importantly, invest in more MATA buses on game day...and expand their path of pick-up locations

The problem is that's too much "work" for the casual/fair weather fan. Park. Wait for a bus. Ride a bus. Then after the game. Wait for a bus. Ride a bus. They'll just stay at home and watch it on TV.

Nah. In decent weather you would have maybe 8 theme park type shuttles. Most casual fans are young, have kids and are accustomed to this. I think it would work well.

Our parking situation is the best of any major program I've been too. By far. I haven't seen any plans that would greatly impact that.

What is the value of that land in the middle of Memphis on the real estate market? The city is going to let private developers build retail and residential buildings on this property. Who is going to own these properties? Are these private developers paying for a ground lease if they own them? Is it anywhere near market value for similar properties? Who is going to collect the lease payments or rent?

There needs to be a lot more info on this before I will say it is a good idea.

isn't that area a TDZ? So if I understand it right all the taxes that hotel/retail/apartments generate goes back to helping redevelop that same area...so it's a good thing right? It should help keep all those roads around the Liberty Bowl paved and the lights on at Tiger Lane...so cool.

between CBU and Liberty Bowl events they could keep a hotel running I'd think.

you have Cooper-Young/Railgarten/Liberty Bowl all right there so I wouldn't worry about crime...it's not 1999 anymore.

Memphis is terrible about that... Students should flock to the Blue Line shuttles but they don't seem to. Free entry, Free ride, all you have to pay for is beer...why not?

Getting a former Tiger to do it doesn't make this a good idea.

If you look at then plans it appears that there won't really be much of a loss of parking. Most of the development area is currently grass.

Grass that cars park on when we've the paved lots are full. I've parked on the grass for games with attendance around 25K.

Yep. The grass where Libertyland once was is crucial parking when we expect a big crowd. I would venture to say that around 3,000-4,000 cars can fit in that area. That area is huge. Where will those cars park now?

Millennials with kids grew up with them and use them now. And that, for the most part, is our casual fan base. How many students live on campus now?

hell, build a garage like the one at Overton Square where Tim McCarver stadium used to be...it can serve Tiger games, the Liberty Bowl, this new hotel can valet park cars there, HS football games, and it can serve as over flow parking for CBU, CMOM, or the Kroc Center.

Looks like the Black Swordsmen has shutdown. So there's an extra lot available on Southern.

This retail project is on Central. It won't affect the Libertyland area.

I would assume that the Libertyland area is where the ball fields would go for the "Youth Sports Complex" that has been mentioned as part of the Fairgrounds redevelopment masterplan. It wouldn't take too many baseball diamonds & soccer fields to gobble up all of the Libertyland site.

RE: Former Tiger James Maclin's firm awarded Fairgrounds mixed use project
I am actually excited to see this all fold out, but I wouldn't be surprised that this doesn't occur. Simply because I've heard a lot of talk from the Mayor and the city about improving downtown, but I've seen little to no results. So what makes this different? I want to see cranes because that somewhat gets me excited about what's coming at the fairgrounds, but I'll keep quiet until I actually see one.

I wonder what will be next for the city when they finish this project, just like I'll wonder what will be next for the University when they finish the new music and recreation buildings. I feel like the U of M will love to find a way to connect the South and main campuses together, but that's just me. Will be pretty cool though.

Hmmm. Not paying much attention.

St. Jude is currently expanding
Convention Center is in middle of $200 Million expansion and renovation
Two new hotels (Indigo and Hilton Garden Inn) just opened
Malco Powerplant just opened
Central Station hotel is about to open
One Beale is finally under development
Hickman building is currently being redeveloped
Servicemaster recently moved Downtown
AutoZone is expanding on Front Street
Old Wonder Bread factory is in middle of $73 Million mixed use development
FedEx Logistics is moving to Gibson building

Not to mention the Clipper, Union Row and Lowe's hotel projects.

Why don't they just redevelop Toby park for baseball fields and soccer and leave old Libertyland site for parking? I wish they would increase the size of Tiger lane since the waiting list to get a spot continues to grow. If they put a sports complex on old Libertyland site, then they need to convert Toby park into a parking/tailgating area.
