New and upgrading facilities in the ASun
If you know of new facilities or upgrades coming in the ASun, share.

I know a new baseball stadium is in the near future for UNA. After (or during) that a new football stadium. Dont have details as of now.

RE: New and upgrading facilities in the ASun
We are expanding our Football Operations Center and building Liberty Arena (a 4500 seat basketball arena).

Liberty is building a new parking garage, school of business, and school of engineering.

I don’t really know how to post pictures.

Oh, and how could I forget,... a new basketball arena.

New nursing school is being built at UNA as well.

Not extremely new, but pretty cool none-the-less. Liberty expanded the lake at Camp Hydaway to cover just over 8 acres. It pretty much was a pond before that... and I guess really is a very large pond now. But Camp Hydaway is a Liberty owned campground/outdoor rec complex exclusively for students.

That's pretty cool. Is the new arena done?

No. I don’t think it’s supposed to be done till next year.
Last time I saw it, May, it was just a hole in the ground.

They're making a lot more progress now, but ya, it's going to be another school year before it's ready for use.
You can start to see the shape of the stadium within the hole, & I think they are more free to do work since there are many less students on campus at the moment.

Via this recent post on an old haunt, I uploaded some photos of renovations proposed for Bellarmine's arena for basketball and volleyball:
http://www.d2messageboard.com/showthread...ost2391510

Since its outset, a few view-obstructing support columns in Knights Hall have been the bane of us fans, and these renderings show some new columns, but you can't have everything. If things go reasonably well at the next level, for a sustained period, I suppose a new facility could happen.

I understand, we wanted a totally new look at Flowers Hall but couldn't because certain parts of the building could not be redone because of structural integrity. I imagine that is why the beams are still in the equation for yall. But I do like what we have, and I believe yall will enjoy a refurbished Knights Hall as well.

So Bellarmine’s baseball and softball will be updated too. It looks really good. Are y’all going to add seat in the stage area? That’s an interesting idea. That’s the one part I hated about yalls arena because it makes it feel high schoolish but that would take care of that and makes perfect sense. Idk why I didn’t think of something like that.

Yes, indeed. The renderings show the old stage filled with rows of seating. Seems to be the most cost-effective way to take care of that area.

If Bellarmine really needed to expand I wonder if the City of Louisville would consider selling Joe Creason Park to them?

I doubt it but it would be worth the shot

RE: New and upgrading facilities in the ASun
You know, the more I think about rejuvenating old arenas like UNAs Flowers Hall and Bellarmines Knights Hall, I kinda like it.

A small old school feel with modern amenities ain't a bad thing, and peaple used to love that kind of thing. Dont get me wrong, a nice, bran new facility is great, and sometimes very much needed, but the old stuff can be great too. I know it's not the same level by any stretch, but you can equate it to Wrigley Field or Fenway Park, if they did away with them to build new baseball parks, it would be a sad day.

That would be really cool, but I don't see it happening -- all those status quo, old-school Highlands types would likely blow a proverbial gasket.

Per what I've seen on the master plan, there could be more campus growth over on the old golf course land.

Expect to see more athletics practice fields and the like on BU's property down Newburg, on the other side of the Watterson (on or near where the old Bashford Manor Mall used to be).

I hear ya and think that's what the administration is hoping, although I suppose they'd like to build a new arena if things go reasonably well for an extended period of time at the D-I level.

The renderings reminded me somewhat of some of the older D-I arenas in the northeast, such as that at Yale and Fordham.

Dont get me wrong, I would love a nice new arena, but the renovation to Flowers turned out to be a lot better than I expected. And a few more factors come into play with UNA, and I'm sure to a certain extent, Bellarmine.

1- We do not get conference money until after the transition is over.

2- We are going to build new baseball stadium, football stadium, renovate the softball stadium and have built new beach volleyball facilities and upgrades to the tennis facilities. Realistically, there is only so much you can do in a short amount of time.

3- kinda land locked, have to be creative with how it will be done.
