I thought the USL ones were free too, my bad. This is where pro/rel could possibly help. Give them incentive to have free academies.

Need to expand the reach. Even if pro team academies are free/low cost, I live in a metro area of 1.6M. Closest MLS club is DC United, which is about 2.5 hours away. Closest USL team is North Carolina FC (btw we played their academy team in a Virginia Beach tournament last year and won), which is about 3 hours away. So our choices are Rush, several high priced, high volume local clubs, and some low price, low volume volunteer clubs. We chose the latter because we happened to stumble upon an exceptional situation, but the landscape really does blow and pretty much excludes anyone not in the upper-middle class other than the token black kid every club has that they found dominating rec and let in for free solely for the purpose of virtue signaling.

DC United is the only full pay for play MLS academy (How cheap are you *******?). Only 13 of the MLS ones are totally free, the others are partial.

Not sure I understand the question "How cheap are you *******?". My points were:

1. Nobody is commuting 2.5 hours so their son or daughter can play youth soccer so MLS academies are moot for a larger part of the population (majority?).

2. Access to high level youth soccer in my neck of the woods is basically limited to upper middle class due to the cost of club soccer. US soccer is missing out on potential talent.

3. The MLS academies that offer low cost training in cities with MLS teams would be well off to expand their reach to cities without MLS teams.

What exactly are you taking exception to?

Well, if they continue to play like they did against Spain she won't have to worry about going to the WH.
Trump trolled her and said focus on winning, nobody gets an invite if you don't win the World Cup.

Who really cares..... I mean really.

I think it's great that our country's team is dominant and all, but I am not even a casual observer and I will watch almost any sporting event. Women's BBall is the same thing - everybody ooh's and aaaah's for about two weeks at the end of March. Otherwise it's crickets the other 50 weeks of the year.

They are getting all wet over 3M viewers on Fox for the USWNT this year (which was down from quarter finals game last time). The men's team (when it made the WC last time in 2014) got 14M viewers - and they weren't that good.

Go win the tournament, feel good about it, and take whatever support you can get - there really isn't that much.

I’m in the same boat on all of that with you. Which makes the USWNT even less significant bc this tournament is only every 4 years.

To be fair, last WWC games were on at night. This time they are on at 3PM. Not really an apples to apples comparison. I casually watched last time and haven't watched a minute of it this time. I would, but I'm not blowing time off work or my weekend day on it.

I haven't watched a minute of their games and don't intend to. When they kick a girl off the team that won't wear a Gay Pride shirt because of her religious beliefs, but turn a blind eye to another that disrespects our National Anthem and President I know that they don't represent my values. 07-coffee3

I may try to get off early Friday to watch the US vs. France. Should be a good game vs the host nation.

I was responding to the idea that all MLS academies are free, only 13 are, the others are partial and DC United doesn't contribute any money towards theirs so 100% of the cost is on the parents.

What I'm forced to follow though, is their political and social-political statements they tend to make so often. Due to all of that, I had no idea a boys' 15-U team beat them 5-1. That's HILARIOUS. So... just because women's soccer is apparently a joke of a sport on the global scale and they dominate it, they want to be paid equal to the men's national team? LOL

Additionally... Rapinoe is really getting annoying and I agree with the poster that said she "needs to check her privilege." She plays a sport in which she can get famous for winning world titles but also get blasted 5-1 by boys 15-U team from a random city in the U.S., gaaaaaarbage.

I'd rather give a raise to the folks flipping my burgers and handing me cold fries.

Except they no longer dominate it. They've lost to France the last 3 times they've played them. The only reason they dominated it previously, was because they were basically the only country that took it seriously. That has since changed. They may still eek out 1 more World Cup this year, but that will be the end of their reign.

I think it's 2 of the last 3 and not 3 in a row. But Friday will be the one that matters--#1 versus home team. I've seen two #1 versus home team matches in France. 1998 Men's World Cup soccer final versus Brazil, and 2002 Six Nations rugby versus England. And #1 is 0-2 in those, so Friday could be rough. If so, could that be bad karma for some of the things they've done? Who knows?

They never really "dominated" it, its just that the pool of great teams was small. It was US, China, Japan, Germany Brazil and everyone else until about 8 years ago. Now all the Euro countries are funding their teams.

ali, you just posted cringe bro

They had America in the palm of their hands after their World Cup win, they could have all cashed in, but they proceeded to blow it by making the tactical error of going all in on this SJW nonsense.

And now they want to cry sexism in attempt to cover for it. Sorry, nope. You made your bed.

They don't want people as fans whom this would alienate. They want those people to go off and die.

I'm with you. If these women can't go out and play for the country and leave their political views out of it, then I hope they lose their platform.

Friday will be interesting. #1 versus the home country. I've seen two matches where #1 played France in France--1998 men's World Cup soccer final versus Brazil and 2002 Six Nations rugby versus England. #1 is 0-2 in those games, and neither was really very close. I think the US women are going to be in for a tough game. If they lose, will that be karma for all the stuff they have been doing?
