Some App graduate on Twitter thought I was crazy for thinking were better off in the SBC than in C-USA. "Is this even a debate?"

I stand by the wish for geographic realignment and of course would expect App to take an AAC invitation, but C-USA just as it is? No thanks.

That's like pre-2012 thinking. CUSA is a shell of its former self. Took the least desirable old SBC teams (Minus WKU) for some dumb reason and left the Belt with teams that have fan bases.

CUSA is the old Sun Belt that everyone made fun of plus Marshall and USM.

You should pay closer attention. The Sun Belt Conference is no better thought of than it's ever been except by a few SBC members themselves, the majority of which are App St and GA Southern fans. Most of the old guard in the SBC still dreams of escaping the bondage of SBC membership some day.

Those of us in CUSA are in no better shape. Most of us would also love to move up the ladder, it's just that the ladder has been removed. It'll take a catapult of some sort to move any of us past the P5 barrier that now exists. That likely means that you (and many other fans of G5 schools) will convince yourself that that catapult is being built especially for your school. It isn't, but hope springs eternal, especially for fans fairly new at the FBS level. You'll get over it. Reality has a way of settling in on a fellow after a decade or two.

Total parity will soon exist among all five G5 conferences. That's just the way things are going to be and there's nothing any of us can do about it.

Being in the 2nd tier of D1 is where most of us belong. P5, G5, FCS are not really tiers on the field, but on the financial books. The top of P5 are in their own class while the top of G5 conferences can compete on the field with middle and lower P5s. Top of FCS can compete with most of G5.

My take away from this post:

GS and App fans are to be discounted and are eternally happy in the Sun Belt.

The P5 G5 arrangement can only be understood by the ole timers who've suffered under it's oppressive bondage for a decade or two.

Parity between conferences is bad and must be consumed like a crap sandwich.

We'll get over something and that's just the way it is.

Any Sun Belt member fan on the CUSA board lobbing this kind of crap? I doubt it but I understand your position. If you don't wanna drive get in the back seat and be quiet.

I love the idea of making the sunbelt the premier G7 league. Schedule good teams, beat them, rinse... repeat conference wide. SB becomes THE league... not sure why ****** teams are desperate to be in the ack.

10 years ago this was the clear cut, undisputed, absolute worst football conference in FBS. Just the fact that you are “in no better shape then us” shows why we are better off now then we where before.

Sure we would all “move up” if called, but the thing that’s changed is CUSA isn’t “moving up” anymore. Part of that is App/Southern improving the league, part of that is old teams like Troy/Ark State getting better, and part of that (maybe the biggest part) is CUSA not finishing the Belt off during the last realignment.

Any of us (Belt or CUSA) would move to the AAC the second the phone rings, but I think most of us realize that call isn’t coming.

From what I've read in press clippings over the last couple of years, perception has changed between CUSA and Sun Belt. I've seen quite a few declare CUSA to now be the worst FBS conference.

oh yeah. that's definitely a given now and is the pretty standard opinion now. And there are stats to back it up as well.

Then there is Phil Steele (whom I respect a great deal) who has them aged of us with the MAC being the worst. We are all pretty much in a boat together with some good teams every year and not so good. As I have said before Troy’s game with Southern Miss could be a real good perception nailer or more confusion and further the arguments amongst we vertically challenged conferences (it is in polite to use the midg.. word)
